  • 1914 - 1920

    1914 - 1920
    In 1914 men were sent off to war, which meant women had to take over the roles of men, for example; working in factories. This meant that women no longer had the uniform of corsets because it would extremely difficult and irritating to wear all day long. Women began to move into the style of baggy shirts, which gave them the freedom to properly do a man's job without being uncomfortable.

    1920 - 1930
    Twenties women and their clothing got a new role in society. “Many influences, some of the most important came at the end of the previous decade and the beginning of the 1920s. These included the women's liberation movement, the first World War, and the beginning of prohibition.”In 1929 was the first year the great depression began, this meant that women of the time had to sell their expensive clothing in order make more money, women had to make clothingb out of used materials.
  • 1940 - 1950

    1940 - 1950
    When the forties first began the styles of women's fashion continued to evolve. The materials for the glitter flapper dresses were no longer available, which meant women and designers had to become creative to create a garment that was made out of old dresses and materials. Many of the garments were an imitation of the military uniform, women's clothing now incorporated shoulder pads, a boxy square neckline, and the sleeves were often designed puffed up.
  • 1960 - 1970

    1960 - 1970
    As the 1960’s approached women's fashion evolved due to the civil rights movement. Women were getting tired of the same “proper” style that was constantly being used and changed. Jacqueline Kennedy, who was the wife of the 35th president of America, John. F. Kennedy made the first influence on fashion in the 60’s, she made a new and outstanding look of more looser and evolutionary looks. the civil rights movement the designs of the african clothing inspired pride of that event
  • 1980 - 1990

    1980 - 1990
    The eighties made a distinctive style for that time.“ Fashion history reveals that the 80s fashion look was a tailored look. It was hard to go anywhere without at least a jacket, but preferably a complete suit. This was influenced by several movements including media influence on 1980s fashion through the popularity of TV dramas like 'Dynasty' and 'Dallas'.   • 2000 - 2010

    2000 - 2010
    In the early 2000’s fashion was considered a mix of every era, which was the beginning of something new for womens fashion. Vintage styles, hip-hop and retro fashion were the main styles from the 80’s to the start of the two thousands. These styles still continue to present day. Thanks to history of fashion women now have more freedom to wear whatever style they want.

    2011 - present day
    Each era explained from 1914 to present day lists an example of an influence society made during that era that gives us women a variety of styles to wear everyday. Now in days women get the freedom to wear whatever they want without being judged if the clothing isn't "lady-like" or formal.
