  • North West Ordinance

    North West Ordinance
    The Northwest Ordinance was put into place July 13, 1787. During this time a process for adding states to the union was implemented. The Northwest Ordinance followed that 60,000 people made a state. Furthermore, this document stated the rights people had living in the union.
  • The Whiskey Rebellion

    The Whiskey Rebellion
    The Whiskey Rebellion was a protest against tax implied onto the people's alcohol. It started in 1791 and lasted 3 years. Many acts of violence occurred during these times, including burning down a regional tax inspector's house.
  • XYZ Affair

    XYZ Affair
    A disagreement between France and the United States in 1798. The French were mad we stopped trading with them and in response wanted to hold a meeting. Once we arrived to have said meeting, they demanded money as a fee for their time.
  • Quasi War

    Quasi War
    The Quasi War was war between the United States and France that started due to disagreements signed by a former president. During this battle, French pioneers stole American ships, which caused President John Adam's to suggest a treaty. Once in France to negotiate to end the war, the XYZ affair took place The war starting in 1798 and was ended with the Convention of 1800, also know as the Treaty of Mortefontaine.
  • Alien Sedition Acts

    Alien Sedition Acts
    In 1798, John Adams made the Alien and Sedition Acts. These were four policies put into place and all of which were unlawful. For example, The Sedition Act prohibited anyone from negatively criticizing the government, which takes away the rights of free speech and press. However, Thomas Jefferson beat Adam in the election, and he revoked all of these acts in 1800.
