  • "Ye Olde Deluder Satan" Law

    "Ye Olde Deluder Satan" Law
This law was established by the court in 1647 and was important because it required towns to appoint teachers, and taxation was set up to fund these schools. This meant that all children, boys or girls, were going to get an education at least as far as reading.
  • First State Board of Education

    First State Board of Education
This event, in Massachusetts, allowed the state to look over public schools and make sure the same standards were being used for the education of all children. Horace Mann wanted schools to be publicly supported and publicly controlled, so every child would have the same education.
  • Brown v. Board of Education

    Brown v. Board of Education
Schools were "separate, but equal" until this case. African Americans would be able to attend the "white" schools that were closer to their own homes, and not have to go to separate schools from the white children. This event wouldn't limit the possibilities of their future and made education equal for all children.
  • Special Education Advances

    Special Education Advances
Students with disabilities were also victims of prejudice, and they were not given much access to an education. Congress passed a law that would allow students with disabilities to get an education along with the other children. Most students with disabilities were missing out on over half of the opportunities they could have been getting from schools, and some children were completely excluded from schools. This was so important because it gave them the opportunity for education.
  • Common Core Standards

    Common Core Standards
Before these standards were available, states had different educational standards. With these standards, students are able to get a similar, more consistent education as students from another state. This also allow a student to be seen on a broader level of where they stand in their own learning. Before, they could have been considered good at reading, but in another state they wouldn't have even been meeting the basic standard. Students will get a strong education no matter where they live.
