    The creation of the first State Board of Education in Massachusetts, unified schools across the state. This is important because it set the precedent for other states to do the same. Horace Mann, also known as "The Father of American Education," believed education taught self dicipline needed to live responsibly. He spread the idea of a democratic education system.

    This event was important because it recognized that students were different and required programs tailored to that diversity. The Cardinal Principles Report promoted common core knowledge that was less strenuous than college prep courses. Students were able to follow their own plan whether it was academic or vocational.

    This is important because it set standards for the preparation and licensing of educators. It also promoted ongoing development for teachers. It acts as a blueprint for what teachers should be able to do and teach so that students are ready for college or the workforce.

    This act is important because it created extreme accountability for public schools. It provided federal aid for schools achieving academic success. This act aimed to establish academic excellence. It set the standard for teachers to be highly qualified in what subject they were teaching the students.
