    Massachusetts Law Requiring Child to be able to Read and Write
    Massachusetts created a law requiring that all children be taught to read and write. This later would pave the way for further accountability of parents and the organization of free public school for all children. This was also a great way to begin accountability to parents for children's education later on.
  • First Montessori School Opened in US

    First Montessori School Opened in US
    Maria Montessori came to the US and a Montessori school was open in 1911. For me this is extremely important in the education timeline as it opened the door later for charter schools, different teaching methods, and a tried and proven learning system. Montessori education has influenced even many public school practices to include more hands on learning material.
  • Brown Vs. Board of Education

    Brown Vs. Board of Education
    A lawsuit in which it was decided that public segregation of people was unconstitutional. This was really the beginning of the civil rights for people in regards to education. Allowing people to realize that education should be open to all and free for all, allowed education to promote equality in schools. This also made people question other discriminatory practices within society as well.
  • No Child Left Behind Act

    No Child Left Behind Act
    This was a bill signed by President Bush Jr. requiring accountability for standardized testing in schools and for teachers. This was an important because we needed a way to make sure students from every demographic were getting the education needed to be successful. The no child left behind act also revealed the weaknesses the our current system and put pressure on schools to improve.

    edTPA
    The edTPA was born out of a group of Stanford University and the American Association of Colleges for Teacher Education. They came together and created guidelines to help make sure inexperienced teachers were prepared and ready to meet the academic needs of all students. This will help educators be more prepared, as the education field becomes even more competitive in the global economy. We need the training and knowledge to understand the time we live in and how to best serve our students
