The Louisiana Purchase
Signed in Paris, France by James Monroe and Robert Livingston, Territory of Louisiana located in North America was bought out by the United States from France, resulting in the U.S. gaining about 530,000,000 acres of territory that was worth $15 million. This allowed the United States to double their land size they owned. -
Indian Civilization Fund Act
This Act was created by James Monroe, based on his belief that Indians were considered “savages” and “uncivilized”. This resulted in the creation of American Indian Boarding Schools, where natives were wrongfully abducted from their homelands by government representatives and Christian Missionaries and sent to these schools. Sent hundreds of miles away from all over the U.S.these children were starved, beaten, stripped of there culture and identities to fit the “American Standard” and much more. -
The Battle of the Alamo
Historic Spanish mission that took place in San Antonio, Texas. The Texans wanted independence from Mexico. The fight was between the Texan Soldiers and Mexican Soldiers and resulted in Mexico forces killing all Texan Soldiers. -
Trail of Tears
As part of President Andrew Jackson’s Indian removal policy, five of the civilized tribes were removed from their homelands located in some of the Eastern States in in the U.S. and forced to migrate to present day Oklahoma. -
California Gold Rush
Took place on a time period where gold became the “talk of the century”, and was known to be located in California. This news traveled vastly, resulting in over 300,000 people traveling to California with the goal of finding gold. Alot of Native land was swamped by these voyagers and it estimated that 100,000 Natives were killed during the first two years of the Gold Rush. -
The Civil War
This major war was held between the United States, Soviet Union and the Confederacy. Eleven of the Southern States separated from the United States to form their own government (confederation), due to the status of slavery and the goal for it to come to an end. -
The Emancipation Proclamation Act
On this day, President Abraham Lincoln issued an executive order issued on behalf of the United States during the Civil War. It ordered all who were held as slaves to be set free, abolishing slavery across America. -
Jim Crow Laws
Were laws created in the South based on Race. These laws allowed for segregation between “whites” and “blacks” in public areas and schools. The name “Jim Crow” originated from Thomas Rice who was a white actor whom presented himself as “Black Face”. With the intent of trying to show his perspective of a Black Enslaved Person, he would put on shows for “whites” and this became the face of Jim Crow Laws. -
Chinese Exclusion Act
The first significant law enforced by President Chester A. Arthur on behalf of the United States, restricting immigration. Chinese immigrants were not allowed to come to the U.S. -
USS Maine Explodes
One of the biggest explosions to take place at sea, the United States Navy Ship Maine sank in the Havana Harbor. This was the greatest contribution to the Spanish-American War that took place in April of 1898. It is to be told that the Spanish were responsible for the destruction of the Ship.
