An english man named Eadwaerd Muybridge started film. He placed a 25,000 dollars bet that horse hooves are all of the ground while racing. He set up cameras across the course to prove that he was correct. He won the $25,000. -
Vaudevilles
During the dawn of cinematography, Vaudevilles opened. Vaudevilles were small theatres that showed performers. Around the 1900s, they charged a nickle for a show, which dawned the name, Nickelodeon. -
kinetoscope Parlor
After the discovery of the moving images, Thomas Edison created the Kinetoscope. Once Kinetoscope were invented, people started opening Kinetoscope parlors. -
Cinematography
The first showing was a private showing only for the wealthy. The first movie was of a train passing by. Soon lead up to cinemas showing 30-60 second movies. -
The Great Train Robbery
In 1903, an employee of Thomas Edison, Edwin Porter, created the first U.S. narrative film. The movie included 14 scenes and lasted 12 minutes. It was a real epic by the standards of the day. -
Nickelodeons
In 1905, small storefront theaters opened up. They showed films with pianos to give a sound effect. These showings cost only a nickle, which gave the name Nickelodeon. -
MCCP (Motion Pictures Patent Company)
After the releasing of the great trian robbery, Thomas Edison saw a chance to manipulate the film industry. All industries that were affilluated the film industries were own by Thomas Edison. The film capital during this time was New York. -
The dawn of West Coast filming
When independant film directors were tired of the MCCP, and also the weather in New York, the directors went California. It was far away from the MCCP and the weather was better. This lead up to hollywood.
