First Fleet
The First Fleet of 11 ships left Portsmouth in 1787 with 1480 people on board. Most were British, there were also African, American and French convicts. After a 3 month voyage the First Fleet arrived at Botany Bay on 24 January 1788. -

Gold Rush
The first gold rush in Australia began in May 1851 after miner Edward Hargraves said he discovered gold at a site he called Ophir. Edward had been to a California goldfield and had learned new gold mining trick witch was panning (wash gravel in a pan to separate out gold.) -
Victoria Became A Colony
At the beginning of 1901, Queen Victoria wanted to be her own colony, and became a state in the Commonwealth of Australia. Between 1901 and 1927.
