In 1978 He Founded the italian fashion label "Versace" and shocked the world with his opulent sex appeal and Greek references. On July 15, 1997 Gianni was shot dead in a random act of murder. HIs killer commited suicide shortly after. The fashion world lost a true titan. No Child Left Behind Act Goes into Effect
The No Child Left Behind Act requires states to develop assessments in basic skills. To receive federal school funding, states must give these assessments to all students at select grade levels. Each individual state develops its own standards. Hurrican Katrina Devastates New Orleans
Hurrican Katrina landed in Louisiana on August 29, 2005. It devastated much of louisiana, but media-focus and damage was largely concentrated in new orleans. the storm destroyed many of the cities levees causing massive flooding to drown the city and many of it's inhabbitants. Most civic buildings were destroyed leaving new orleanians without clean water, electricity, or access to emergency services. katrina caused 1,833 fatalities and over $108 billion in damages. -

The 2009 flu pandemic or swine flu was an influenza pandemic, and the second of the two pandemics involving H1N1 influenza virus. First described in April 2009, the virus appeared to be a new strain of H1N1 which resulted when a previous triple reassortment of bird, swine and human flu viruses further combined with a Eurasian pig flu virus, leading to the term "swine flu". the virus casued nearly 10,000 deaths and hospitalized 200,000 more. -

Begging november 15, 2010 the fires swept across the drought stricken central texas and destroyed 4,000,000 acres of land, 2,974 homes, and 2,700 other structures. Don't Ask, Don't Tell Repealled
The clinton administration institued the policy of Don't Ask, Don't Tell on December 21, 1993. The policy prohibited military personel from harrassing closted members of the lgbt community, while banning openly gay people from serving in the military. a landmark study proved that serving with openly gay soilders had no negative effects, and on sept. 20, 2011 DADT was repealed and the lgbt community was allowed to openly serve our country at last. -
Boston Marathon bombings
on April 15, 2013, bombs exploded during the Boston Marathon killing 3 people and injuring 264 others. The bombs exploded about 12 seconds and 210 yards apart, near the finish line on Boylston Street. The suspects were identified later that day as Chechen brothers Dzhokhar and Tamerlan Tsarnaev.During an initial interrogation Dzhokhar alleged that Tamerlan was the mastermind. He said they were motivated by extremist Islamist beliefs and the wars in Iraq. their trial was set for february 5, 2015
