First "film" ever made

Jun 15, 1878

The first motion picture ever made was a horse galloping. It was about five seconds long. Edward J. Muybridge made a bet that a horse has all his hooves off the ground at one moment in time. So his friends bet 25,000 dollars and soon they were sadly mistaken.

First camera is invented: Nicephore Niepce

Sep 4, 1888

George Eastman introduces the lightweight, inexpensive Kodak camera, using film wound on rollers. This camera took the first successful photograph using a small camera of his own and a piece of paper coated with silver chloride. This process made the photo darkened to where it was exposed to light.

First action film released

Dec 1, 1903

"The Great Train Robbery," the 1st Western film, released. It was about a group of bandits who had the police hot on their tails. The film opens with two bandits breaking into a railroad telegraph office, where they force the operator at gunpoint to have a train stopped and to transmit orders for engineer to fill the locomotive's tender at the stations water tank.

First Animated Cartoon: Humorous phases of funny faces

The first cartoon ever made was called humorous phases of funny faces. This was the first short silent animated cartoon directed by James stuart Blackton. This film was generally regarded by film historians as the first animated film recorded on standard picture film.

First movie stunt: Stuntman

This stunt included A man jumping into the Hudson river from a burning hot air balloon. This was also a silent film. This stunt marked as the first stunt in film.

First Comedy film made: Tillie's Punctured Romance

"Tillie's punctured Romance" was the first comedy ever made in the world of film. Charles portrays a womanizing city man who meets Tille in the country after a fight with his girlfriend. The uncle is found on a mountaintop he soon back to his mansion, in disarray after an instigated gunfight. Tillie and the mans girlfriend realize that they are too good for him. He leaves, and the two girls become friends.

Warner Bros. is established

Apr 4, 1923

Warner Bros.is established in Hollywood. They later create king kong, The Jazz Singer, and Godzilla. This company originated from the four founding Warner brothers. Harry, Albert, Sam, and Jack Warner began in the movie theater business, having acquired a movie projector which they showed films in the mining towns of Pennsylvania and Ohio.

First Film made with Sound

Oct 6, 1927

"The Jazz Singer" was the first film in the movie world that featured sound. A major hit, it was made with Vitaphone, Which was at the time the leading brand of sound on disc. This was the first sound on film, however, would soon become the standard for talking pictures.

Technicolor is invented

Jun 4, 1929

George Eastman demonstrates 1st technicolor movie. This is just a colored motion picture used from 1922-1952.

First color television broadcast

Nov 3, 1953

First live color coast to telecast. It all started with a commercial as an announced transition to prime time programming. After programing in color it soon became the first all color prime time season in over a year.

The Godfather

"The Godfather" widely regarded as one of the greatest films of all time. This film focuses on the powerful Italian American crime family of Don Vito Corleone. This film was the highest grossing film of 1972 and was for a time the highest grossing film ever.

Toy Story

Toy story is a 1995 American computer animated film produced by Pixar Animation studies for Walt Disney. This film revolutionized animated movies for years to come. Disney used this film as an outlet to other animated movies in the industry creating a pathway of success.
