Democritus
Established the concept that everything the the universe consisted of atoms. -
John Dalton
His modern atomic theory is still relevant within our society today. It proposes that all matter consists of atoms. Futhermore, it states that compounds are formed by a combonation of two or more different atoms, and atoms themselves are unable to be destroyed. -
Mendeleev
Published the first periodic table. -
J.J Thomson
Thomson discovered electrons, and the postive and negative charges of protons and electrons respectivally. Futhermore, he developed the Plum Pudding atomic model prior to Rutherford's discovery of the nucleus. -
Henry Moseley
Moseley created a more accurate organisation of the period table through the inclusion of atomic mass. -
Sir William Ramsay
Discovered the gases neon, argon, krypton and xenon. Furthermore, he showed that helium and radon create a new group of gases called the Noble Gases. -
Ernest Rutherford
Developed the gold foil experiment, and through this established that the atom contained a relitavley heavy centre, soon to be known as the nucleus, through shooting partciles at gold foil. -
Niels Bohr
Proposed the theory of the hydrogen atom, and created the model used within modern soceity, known as the Bohr Model. He also discovered electrons circulate the nucleus and detirmine the features of an element.
