Democritus
Democritus was an Ancient Greek philosopher who many consider as the "father of modern science". He is most known for discovering the idea of atomism and his own atomic theory. He experimented with many different kinds of plants and minerals. -
John Dalton
John Dalton was an English scientist. In 1793, he published "Meteorological Observations and Essays". He stated in that book that water vapor didn't combine chemically with atmospheric gases. He was also the first person to write a paper on color blindness. Although, his main discovery was that all elements are composed of atoms. -
JJ Thomson
JJ Thomson was most known for discovering the electron. Thomson discovered this by performing experiments with charged particles in gases. He showed that cathode rays consisted of electrons. -
Ernest Rutherford
Ernest Rutherford is most known for proving that atoms are mostly empty space, and that all cells have a nucleus. He proved this by his famous "gold foil experiment", in where he shot alpha particles at a sheet of gold foil. Some would go though or bounce back. If they could go through, that showed that atoms were mostly empty space. -
Niels Bohr
Niels Bohr was most known for discovering how electrons work. He experimented the atom. He discovered that there are levels, each of which hold different amounts of electrons. He also discovered that electrons go around the nucleus in a circular motion.
