    "Butterfly" Swim Stroke Invented
    Stroke Introduced The butterfly, which is olympic gold medalist Michael Phelps' strongest stroke, was invented by a man named Jack Siege in the Field House pool in 1935.   • Iowa Hosts NCAA Tournament Regional Finals

    Iowa Hosts NCAA Tournament Regional Finals
    Texas Western The University of Iowa played host to four NCAA tournament regional chamnpionships within a span of ten years. in 1954, 1956, 1964, and 1966 games were played in the Field House.     Iowa's Prestigious year in Sports
    Iowa Wrestling Iowa's men's basketball team advanced to the Final Four on the same night that legendary coach Dan Gable brought home his third straight championship.     Carver-Hawkeye Arena Opens

    The Board of Regents approved the start of construction on the Field House to begin in the Fall of 2012. Construction will knock out the main entry way to Field House.     Field House to be Vacated and Demolished
    Field House Today The Board of Regents has a proposal to to vacate and demolish the Field House in order to make way for an expansion of University of Iowa Hospitals and Clincis.
