FM radio was a new form of radio at the time. It gave higher sound quality and had higher range for an area. At the time the invention was very costly and cars needed an adapter to reccive FM radio waves. Now cars come default with FM and AM radio. -

W1XOJ was the first FM radio station and was given permission to trasnmit by the FCC in 1937. -
XM Radio
Instead of radio stations being a local system, with each local area covred by one station, XM radio is coverage for the whole country. A god comparison would be XM is like a nation wide news station such as CNN and FM is like a local/state wide news. -
Internet Radio
Pandora Radio, a more personal version of muscial radio was created in 2011 and blew up as a popular platform for musical radio. Now lots of cars come default with a connection to Pandora radio. Another music streaming platform is Spotify. Peoeple still argue as to which platform is better
