Hilary Putman (July 31, 1926- March 13, 2016)

  • The Beginning

    Putnam was born the only child of Samuel and Riva Putnam on July 31, 1926.
  • The First Major Life Event

    Putnam studied at the University of Pennsylvania, attended graduate school at Harvard and University of California. He finally obtained a Ph.D in 1951.
  • A Change in Career

    After getting his Ph.D Putnam taught for several years at several different places. Once he was done with that he joined the philosophy department at Harvard in 1976.
  • Defense of Realism

    Metaphysical realism into internal realism was one of the biggest revisions that Putnam made.
