Grace Kelly's Birth
Grace was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Her father Jack Kelly owned one of the most sucessful brick businesses. Her mother Margaret Katherine Majer was the first coach of women's athletic teams at the University of Pennsylvania. Grace was one of four children. -
Grace graduates High School.
After high school, Grace decided to pursue an acting career in New York, despite her parents objections. Her father thought that acting was "a slim cut above streetwalker." Still Grace enrolled American Academy of Dramatic Arts. -
Attends the American Academy of Dramatic Arts.
As a student, Grace was a part-time model, appeared on magazines, and ads. Her final performance at the Academy was in "A Philadelphia Story." -
First movie
Gary Cooper discovered Grace on her first movie Fourteen Hours, when she was only 22. He then later arranged her to star in High Noon, in 1952. -
Nominated for first Academy Award.
Mogambo was a big turning point in Graces career, she was nominated for her first Academy Award and won a Golden Globe for best supporting actress. MGM then offered her a seven-year contract, she accepted it. Only on one condition though, she live in Manhattan every other year so that she could pursue stage work. -
Grace meets Prince Rainier III of Monaco
Grace was asked to join the United States Delegation Comittee at the Cannes Film in France. While at a photo shoot, she met Prince Rainier III of Monaco, who happened to be looking for a bride. -
Royal Marriage
Grace married Prince Rainier III of Monaco, in a very public and ornate ceremony. After marrying, she had to give up her acting career in order to become Princess Consort of Monaco. She was also required to give up her American citzenship, and Prince Rainier had also banned her films in Monaco. -
Grace has 3 children
The royal couple had 3 children: Princess Caroline of Hanover, Prince Albert II, and Princess Stephanie of Monaco. Prince Albert (born in 1958) II is now ruling Monaco, he is also one of the wealthiest royals. Princess Caroline of Hanover (born in 1957) has been the heiress presumptive to the throne since 2005. Princess Stephanie of Monaco (born in 1965) is currently seventh in line, and she had been a singer, swimwear designer, and fashion model. -
Grace Kelly dies.
While driving with Princess Stephanie of Monaco, along the steep cliffs of the Cote d'Azur region of southern France, Grace suffered a stroke and lost control of the car. The car then spun off the cliff's edge and plunged down a 45-foot embankment. -
Grace Kellys Legacy
The McCord Museum in Montreal presents the exhibition from Philadelphia to Monaco: Grace Kelly. There is also a rose garden in Monaco, that is dedicated to the memory of Princess Grace. It was opened in 1984 by Prince Rainier. In the garden there is a statue in memory of her, which features 4,000 roses.
