    Helen received her BA from Barnard College in 1966, her Masters in Philosophy from Sussex University in 1967. She then also received her PhD in Philosophy from the Johns Hopkins University in 1973.

    Professor Longino began instructing at the University of California from 1973–1975, Mills College from 1975-1990, and the University of Minnesota from 1995 to 2005. She later went on to join the philosophy department of Stanford University.

    Her first book was published in 1990 titled, "Science as Social Knowledge: Values and Objectivity in Scientific Inquiry." In her book she noted that scientific results are neither for or against in support of theories but data that relevant or not in the realm of human beliefs and what is believed true with regard to being logical. Also in 1990 Helen began teaching at Rice University and she played a key role in establishing women's studies at many educational institutions over years.

    Her second book in titled "The Fate of Knowledge" was published in 2001. As a firm believer social interaction aides in producing rational knowledge. Her book builds on her first and elaborates on her work in various areas like that of social epistemology. A year later she received the Robert K. Merton Professional Award for best book.

    She was the Clarence Irving Lewis Professor of Philosophy from 2008 to 2011, then served as President of the Philosophy of Science Association from 2013–2014. In 2016, she became the first Vice President of the Division of Logic, Methodology and Philosophy of Science and Technology of the International Union of History and Philosophy of Science from 2016–2019.

    Professor Longino is the C.I. Lewis Professor in Philosophy. Her third book was written in 2013 and titled "Studying Human Behavior: How Scientists Investigate Aggression and Sexuality." She was award winning Best Book in Feminist Philosophy Prize in 2014. In 2016 Helen Longino received her election to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.
