Heisenberg week 3- Dudley

  • The Birth of Werner Heisenberg.

    The Birth of Werner Heisenberg.
Werner Heisenberg was born December 5th 1901. In Wurzburg, Germany.
  • Paper

Heisenberg had a paper published titled "Quantum theoretical re-interpretation of kinematic and mechanical relations" working very closely with Wolfgang Pauli and Max Born. The paper was the jumping off point for matrix mechanics. The same year the formulation of quantum mechanics was expanded. Cassidy, David C. Beyond Uncertainty Heisenberg, Quantum Physics, and the Bomb. Bellevue Literary Press, 2009.
  • Uncertainty Principle.

Introduced in 1927, it states that the more accurate a position of particles is determined the less accurate their momentum can be found, and vice versa. A short video from Youtube describes it.

  • Nobel Prize in Physics

Heisenberg was awarded the Nobel prize "for the creation of quantum mechanics" Which has led to the discovery of a form of hydrogen. He was awarded the prize in 1932 but didn't receive it until 1933. The Nobel Prize in Physics 1932. NobelPrize.org. Nobel Media AB 2019. • German Nuclear Weapons Program

Heisenberg work for the Nazis' on their nuclear weapons program called the second Uranverein. He did so under distress and was reported to have misinformed the Fuehrer because it would have caused "extremely disagreeable consequences for us" Ermenc, Joseph J. • Death

Heisenberg died of cancer February 1st, 1976 in his home. He is buried at Munich Waldfriedhof.
