Survey Details
BRFSS completes more than 400,000 adult interviews each year that collects data about:
- health-related risk behaviors
- chronic health conditions
- use of preventive services Initial analysis helps determine if a lack of medical care is a problem in Alabama, and why. -
During Expansion
The new location receives funding to use an SQL database to store, manage, and analyze data. The IT system administrator physically transfers the data over to the new location. This consists of copying the data set and codebook to a flash drive, delivering it to the new location, and immediately importing it into the new system. -
Data Retrieval
Data is retrieved from the BRFSS database and stored in CSV format on a secure hard drive in a securely locked room. -
Discovery
The new data analyst discovers that the CSV file contains characters that are unreadable by the SQL database during data migration.
