    Stephen Hawking was born on January 8, 1942 which happened to be three hundred years after the death of Galileo. Though his family lived in London at the time, he was born in Oxford because of relocation from the bombings occuring in London from World War II ("My Brief History" 6).
  • Diagnosed with ALS

    Diagnosed with ALS
    Shortly after his tewenty first bithday, Hawking fell and was unable to stand back up again. After being rushed to the hospital and given extensive numbers of tests, the results came back saying that he had a severe motor neuron disease.   • A Brief History of Time

    In 1982, Hawking decided to write a book that could be easily read and understood by the common person about physics and how humanity's understanding of the universe has increased dramatically( "My Brief History" 92). Some outdated ideas, such as the world lying in the back of a tortoise, were things that he compares to the advance of humanity's knowledge ("A Brief History of Time" 1). His book became wildly popular and millions of copies had been sold.
  • Hawking experiences Zero Gravity

    After meeting Peter Diamandis through the Archon X Prize, Hawking was able to experience the feeling of weighlessness through parabolic flight. (TED)
  • 2012 Paralympic Games

    2012 Paralympic Games
    Stephen Hawking made an appearence at this event in London. There he discussed how people shouldn't concentrate on what their handicap prevents them from doing and instead on those that they can and won't regret doing ("My Brief History"123). ("Stephen Hawking - Home.")
