    Colonists
    John White and 116 colonists landed here in 1524. They met the Croatan indians who had already settled in the islands location.
  • Cape Hatteras Light House

    Cape Hatteras Light House
    On July 10th, 1797 the funding was put out to built the light house. The origional tower was finished in 1803. Was created to make ships aware of the dangerious shores. The origional tower was destroyed because of its new found uselessness. A new tower was built in 1870 and later put out of comission because of the shoreline getting closer to the light house. In 1950 the light house was put back into comission. In 2000 the lighthouse was moved and rededicated because of the erosion.
  • Fort Hatteras

    Fort Hatteras
    July 10, 1861, US Navy fired on Fort Hatteras. Experianced early Naval warfare durring the civil war. The Union solders attacked to fort to gain some control of the coast of North Carolina and was a successful Union win.
  • Torpedo Junction

    Torpedo Junction
    Durring WWII german U-Boars sank many of the United State's ships off the coast of Hatteras because it was a navagational focal point. The coast was named Torpedo Junction.
  • Herbert C. Bonner Bridge

    Herbert C. Bonner Bridge
    The Herbert C. Bonner Bridge was completed allowing many tourists to easally travel to Hatteras Island making it a very popular vacationing spot.
