Harry Potter is born to Lily and James Potter -
Harry Potter Orphaned
James and Lily Potter are killed by Lord Voldemort. Harry, only an infant, becomes the first person to surive a killing curse. The curse rebounds on Voldemort, robbing him of his body. The Potter home destroyed, Harry is rescued from the ruins by Rubeus Hagrid and delivered to Albus Dumbledore, who leaves him on the doorstep of his Muggle Aunt and Uncle. Harry remains ignorant of the Wizard world and his celebrity as "The Boy Who Lived" until his eleventh birthday. -
Harry's Eleventh Birthday
Harry turns eleven and learns of his wizard heritage from Rubeus Hagrid, who delivers his invitation to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. -
Harry's First Year Begins
Harry's attends his first year at Hogwarts.. He is sorted into Gryffindor and meets Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger. He is introduced to the world of wizards, learns magic, discovers Quidditch, and faces and defeats Voldemort for the second time. His first year ends in June of 1992. -
Harry's Twelfth Birthday
Harry turns twelve and meets Dobby the house elf, who warns Harry that he will be in danger if he returns to Hogwarts. Dobby's actions manage to earn Harry and official warning letter of use of underage magic, and imprisonment by his aunt and uncle in his room. -
Harry Rescued by Weasleys
Harry is rescued from his locked and barred bedroom by Ron Weasley and his elder twin brothers Fred and George, who fly the family's magically enchanted car to Harry's home. -
Missing the Train
Harry's second year at Hogwarts begins, but he and Ron are blocked from the train platform and instead fly the Weasley family car to Hogwarts, nearly getting them expelled. Gileroy Lockhart becomes Defense Against the Dark Arts professor. -
500th Deathday and 1st Attack
Harry, Ron, and Hermione attend the 500th Deathday party of Nearly Headless Nick. Harry hears voices in the walls. Caretaker Filch's cat, Mrs. Norris, is petrified in the first attack of the Basilisk. -
Petrification and a Plan
Colin Creevey is petrified by the basilisk, and Hermione begins to brew polyjuice potion in Moaning Myrtle's bathoom. -
Dualing Club
Hogwarts hosts a dualing club. In his dual, Harry unwittingly speaks parseltongue to a snake conjured by his opponent Draco Malfoy. His use of parseltongue convinces the student body that Harry is the heir of Slytherin, who was known for his ability to speak to snakes. -
More Victims
Justin Finch-Fletchley and Nearly Headless Nick are found petrified. Harry was found at the scene and is taken to Dumbledore's office, where he has his first encounter with Fawkes the phoenix. When Dumbledore asks Harry if there is anything he would like to tell him, Harry answers no, despite thinking of the strange voices he's been hearing. -
Polyjuice
Harry and Ron use polyjuice potion to transform into Crabbe and Goyle, lackeys of Drace Malfoy, in hopes of grilling Malfoy for answers reguarding the heir of Slytherin. They yield little information, beyond dashing their hopes of Malfoy being the heir. -
Memories
Harry writes in Tom Riddle's diary and Riddle shows him his memory of capturing Rebues Hagrid, naming Hagrid as the heir of Slytherin due to the monster Hagrid was keepin in the castle. Shortly afterwards, Riddle's diary is stolen from Harry's room. -
A Friend Fallen
Hermione Granger and Penelope Clearwater are found petrified. Quidditch is canceled and many worry for the future of Hogwarts as a school. Hagrid is sent to the wizard prison Azkaban due to his past as the suspected Slytherin heir, and Dumbledore is suspended as headmaster of Hogwarts. Harry and Ron witness both events from beneath Harry's invisibility cloak. -
Into the Forest
Harry and Ron enter the forest and come face to face with a gigantic talking spider named Aragog. Here, they learn that Aragog was the monster Hagrid ahd been keeping, but that he had not been the one attacking students. -
Into the Chamber
Harry and Ron learn that Ginny Weasley has been taken into the chamber of secrets. They piece together the clues and discover it's location, jumping into the chamber and dragging along Professor Lockhart with them. Harry battles the basilisk and learns that the charming young Tom Riddle later becomes Lord Voldemort. With the help of Fawkes the phoenix and the Sword of Gryffindor, Harry manages to defeat both the basilisk and destroy the diary that Riddle's soul was bound to. -
A Favor Repayed
Harry tricks Luscius Malfoy into freeing his house elf, Dobby, by hiding his sock in Riddle's diary and returning it to Malfoy. The term ends and those who were petrified are cured. -
Harry's 13th Birthday
Harry turns thirteen. Vernon's sister, Marge, comes to visit. Sirius black also escapes from Azkaban prison around this time. -
Expansion and Escape
In a moment of uncontroled, angry magic, Harry blows up Aunt Marge like a balloon and flees Privet Drive, fearing himself expelled from Hogwarts for using magic. He is picked up by the Knight Bus, and is taken to the Leaky Cauldron in London where he meets with Minister of Magic Cornelius Fudge, who assures Harry that he will not be expelled. -
Friends and Secrets
Harry, after spending weeks on his own in the Leaky Cauldron and Diagon Alley, meets with Hermione, Ron, and the Weasley family. That night, he overhears Mr. and Mrs. Weasley arguing about Sirius Black, and learns that Black is after Harry. -
Another Year
Harry and friends begin their third year at Hogwarts. On the journey to the school, the train is stopped and searched by dementors, and Harry faints. They learn that, as an extra precaution against Sirius Black, Hogwarts grounds will be surrounded by dementors until Black is recaptured. Professor Lupin becomes Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher, and Hagrid becomes professor of Care of Magical Creatures. -
Break In
Sirius Black breaks into Hogwarts while students and staff are at the Halloween Feast. He slashes the portrait of the pink lady, who guards the openeing to the Gryffindor common room. Students are sent to sleep in the Great Hall while the staff unsuccessfully searches the grounds for Black. -
Left Behind
Harry is unable to go on the first Hogsmeade trip due to his lack of a signed note. As a result, Fred and George Weasley give Harry the Marauder's Map, which allows him to sneak around Hogwarts and into Hogsmeade. In Hogsmeade, Harry learns that Sirius Black was the one who betrayed his parents to Voldemort. -
An Anonymous Gift
Harry receives a Firebolt--the best broom on the market--as a Christmas gift, but it is confiscated by porfessor McGonagall, who believes it may be in some way connected to Sirius Black. -
A Second Break In
Sirius Black manges to sneak into Gryffindor tower and slashes Ron's bed curtains. Ron's screams awaken the residents of the tower and Black flees and evades capture once more. -
A Hearing
Buckbeak the Hippogriff has a hearing for attacking Draco Malfoy. The Committee for the Disposal of Dangerous Creatures sentences him to death. -
Previously, Later that Night
Harry and Hermione use a time turner to travel three hours into the past, in order to save Sirius's life. They manage to free Buckbeak before his execution, save past-Harry and Sirius from a group of dementors, and help Sirius escape with Buckbeak. -
A Night of Revelation
The truth of the Potters' betrayal to Voldemort becomes clear. Ron's rat, Scabbers, is revealed to be Peter Pettigrew in hiding. Pettigrew was the one who betrayed the Potters to his master, Voldemort, and who framed Sirius for the murders of himself and twelve muggles. Professor Lupin is revealed to be a werewolf. Pettigrew escapes as Lupin begins to transform, and Sirius Black, still believed to be guilty, is recapured. Harry, Ron, and Hermione, find themselves in the hospital wing. -
Depature and Victory
Lupin resigns from his post after his status as a werewolf is made public. Later, the Gryffindor house wins the Quidditch cup for the first time in a decade. Though Sirius is still on the run, Harry ends his third year having finally found someone close to family.
