Harry's parents are killed, Voldemort vanishes
Harry Potter's parents are tragically murdered by Voldemort. In an attempt to kill Harry Potter, the curse backfires and "kills" Voldemort. Harry is handed over to his aunt and her family, "The Dursleys". After this, Voldemort is believed to finally be dead. Harry gets the nickname "The Boy Who Lived". -
The Zoo
Harry and the Dursleys go to the zoo. At the zoo Harry is looking at a snake. Suddenly he hears a voice talking to him. It is the snake speaking to him. It becomes clear that he is the only one that can hear the snake. All of a sudden, the glass separating Harry from the snake terrarium vanishes, and the snake escapes. -
Letters!
Harry and the Dursleys start receiving ungodly amounts of what seem like magical letters, all addressed to Harry Potter. Harry's uncle Vernon refuses to let Harry read the letters for some reason. In an attempt to escape the never ending letter rain, Uncle Vernon drags Harry and his family to a hotel to stay at. When a hundred letters show up at the hotel where they are staying at, Uncle Vernon buys a gun and takes the family to a hut out on the rocks. -
You're a wizard Harry!
Hagrid appears at the hut where Harry and the Dursleys are staying. Hagrid tells Harry that his parents were wizards, and that Harry is one as well. Harry is also informed that he will be attending Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. -
Harry and Hagrid go to Diagon Alley
Hagrid accompanies Harry to Diagon Alley to buy supplies for Hogwarts. Harry has his first encounter with real wizards. He goes to buy a wand, and finds out that the wand that best suits him is made with a feather taken from the same Phoenix as the feather in Lord Voldemort's wand was. Harry receives a white owl named Hedwig as a birthday present from Hagrid. -
Sorting Hat
Harry Potter arrives at Hogwarts. When the sorting hat is put on his head, it tells him that he would fit well in house Slytherin. Harry has heard bad things about Slytherin, and would much rather be in Gryffindor. "I really want to be in Gryffindor!", Harry thinks to himself. The sorting hat reads his thoughts, and responds by placing him in house Gryffindor. -
Harry and Ron meet
Harry and Ron Weasly meet for the first time on platform 9 and 3/4. When they get on the train they decide to sit with eachother. Harry with his big bag of galleons, orders as much candy as he can for the two to share. The boys quickly become good friends. -

Harry gets a spot on the Gryffindor Quidditch team
During a broomstick flying lesson, Harry breaks the rules and flies on his broomstick. Draco had stolen Neville's Remembrall and flied away with it on his broomstick, and Harry had followed. Because of his spectacular flying, he instantly gets offered the position as seeker on the Gryffindor house team, even though he had broken the rules. -
The trio defeats the troll
A troll is loose in the school, chaos ensues. Harry and Ron quickly realize that Hermione is missing. They find her stuck in a bathroom together with the troll. The three of them cooperatively defeat the troll. The trio quickly becomes good friends after the event. -
Christmas
The school celebrates Christmas. Harry receives a mysterious cloak from an anonymous person. When worn, the wearer magically becomes invisible. This cloak will soon become one of Harry's most important tool for navigating the school at night. -
The Mirror
Harry finds a mysterious mirror while wandering around the school at night in his invisibility cloak. In the mirror he can see his own reflection, a swell as what Harry desires most in the entire world, to be with his dead parents. He later takes Ron to show him the mirror, and the boys are confused when Ron doesn't see Harry's parents, but rather himself standing holding the quidditch world cup. -
Detention in the Forbidden forest
Harry, Hermione, Draco, and Neville serve detention with Hagrid in the Forbidden Forest. They are told to split up. Harry goes with Draco. While walking they stumble upon a disturbing creature sucking the blood of a dead unicorn. It is later revealed that the creature is what remains of Lord Voldemort. -
Harry defeats Quirrell
After Harry and his friends find out that a stone that Dumbledore has hidden in the school, is at risk of being stolen by Snape, they head down into the chambers of the school to stop him. After completing multiple trials, only Harry is left to face Snape. But when Harry gets to the end, he stumbles upon professor Quirrell instead, who is using his body as a host for Voldemort. Harry barely manages to defeat Quirrell, and Dumbledore swoops in to save Harry. -
Gryffindor wins the house cup
Gryffindor wins the house cup all because of Neville's bravery. Neville stands up to Ron Harry and Hermione when they are breaking curfew, but Hermione jinxes him. Because of this, Gryffindor gains the points necessary to win over Slytherin.
