  • Laertes wishes to back to France

    Laertes wishes to back to France
    Laertes was attending school in France prior to King Hamlet's death. After some of the mourning and grieving was calmed down, Laertes wished to speak with King Claudius about going back to France. Claudius grants Laertes permission to return. Later after Hamlet decides he wants to go back to England to finish his schooling, but unfortunately Claudius denies Hamlet because he is fearful that Hamlet will return with his own army or allies against Claudius. ( 1. 2)
  • Hamlet agrees to fencing match with Laertes

    Hamlet agrees to fencing match with Laertes
    Laertes is full of anger from hearing that his father Polonius was killed and wanted revenge but he thought Claudius was his killer until he was told that it was actually Hamlet. Hamlet is challenged to a fencing match against Laertes. Hamlet doesn't know that Laertes actually poisoned and sharpened his sword before the fencing battle. (5.2)
  • King Hamlet Dies

    King Hamlet Dies
    King Hamlet has been murdered by his brother, Claudius, he pours poison into his brother's ear while he was sleeping in the garden. Claudius told the kingdom and the people that King Hamlet died when a serpent stung him while sleeping in his orchard. (1.3)
  • Queen Gertrude Marries Claudius

    Queen Gertrude Marries Claudius
    The month after King Hamlet dies, his wife, Gertrude, marries his brother Claudius, therefore making him the new king. King Claudius was jealous of his brother and everything that he had, Claudius had to have it all to himself so he killed his brother out of jealously. (1.2)

    Ghost First Appearance
    The ghost of King Hamlet had first appeared in front of a pair of soldiers and Horatio, Hamlet's friend. The men froze with fear and drew their swords. Horatio was requested to address the ghost to speak to them and to tell the secret to them. (1.4)

    Polonius and Laeters warns Ophelia
    Ophelia's father, Polonius, and brother, Laertes, consider that Hamlet doesn't really love Ophelia and advise her to not be fooled by him. (1.3)

    This is Hamlet's first time talking with the ghost of his father. Hamlet is told the truth about his father and that his uncle was the one that killed him and how he killed him. He is confused and doesn't know if he should trust the ghost. (1.5)
  • Claudius hires Rosencrantz and Guildenstern to spy on Hamlet

    Claudius hires Rosencrantz and Guildenstern to spy on Hamlet
    Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are asked to spy on Hamlet to get to the bottom of his activities and his madness. Claudius was worried that Hamlet knew more about Claudius and his actions towards Old Hamlet but he isn't saying anymore more about it. (2.2)
  • Polonius and Claudius spy on Ophelia and Hamlet

    Polonius and Claudius spy on Ophelia and Hamlet
    Polonius and Claudius spy on the young couple for the reason to understand Hamlet's madness and what has happened to him. Polonius wants to know if his daughter will be safe with Hamlet or if he is lovesick while Claudius is looking to see if Hamlet is able to handle kingship. Ophelia speaks with Hamlet, but he lashes out at her with harsh words. This leaves Ophelia left questioning his love for her. (3.1)

    "To be or not to be..."
    Hamlet's "To Be or Not To Be" soliloquy reflects his thoughts on death. He says death would rid him of the world's troubles, but the unknown after death scares him. Hamlet is douting his life and the reason for it. He doesn't have any value towards his life or others, he becomes really depressed and suicidal. (3.1)
  • Hamlet sees Claudius praying

    Hamlet sees Claudius praying
    Hamlet walks in and sees Claudius defenseless. It would be the perfect moment to kill him but before Hamlet does anything he stops himself. Believing that Claudius was praying for forgiveness and he couldn't risk the King going to heaven and escaping the eternal punishment of being sent to hell. (3.3)

    Hamlet critized Gretrude and kills Poloinus (3.4)
    Hamlet goes into his mother's room to talk to Gertrude. Discussed with his mother, Hamlet starts yelling and criticizing her for sleeping with her brother-in-law shortly after King Hamlet died. Hamlet accuses Gertrude of lustfulness and selfishness. Gertrude is upset with her son she begs him to leave but Hamlet wasn't done, Hamlet believed that Claudius was hiding listening to them talk. He stabs the curtain and his a person but he thought it was Claudius but to his surprise it was Polonius.

    Hamlet was sent to England
    Claudius was fearful of Hamlet so he sends him to England. Hamlet sails from Denmark to England with his two friends, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern. Claudius had hired Rosencrantz and Guildenstern to spy and watch everything Hamlet did and to report back to Claudius with all the information they had collected. (4.3)
  • Ophelia's death

    Ophelia's death
    Ophelia is so devastated about her lover killing her father that she drowns herself in the river. Before her death, Ophelia climbed into a willow tree that had a branch that grew over the top of the brook. When she got onto the branch it broke dropping her into the brook, where she drowned. Gertrude says that Ophelia appeared "incapable of her own distress". This takes to me that she wasn't trying to help herself. (4.7)
  • Hamlet and Horatio witness Ophelia's burial

    Hamlet and Horatio witness Ophelia's burial
    Hamlet and Horatio are walking in the graveyard when they see Ophelia's grave. At the funeral, with lots of grief and outstricken love for Ophelia. Hamlet shouts upon the people at the funeral. Describing his love for Ophelia in agonized fury. Once Hamlet finished ranting, he leaps into the grave and fights with Laertes, saying that “forty thousand brothers could not, with all their quantity of love, make up my sum” (5.1)
  • Hamlet and Claudius both die

    Hamlet and Claudius both die
    Laertes has a swing that wounded Hamlet. Hamlet doesn't immediately die from the poison on the sword. Hamlet then stabs Claudius with the poisoned sword and forces him to drink down the rest of the poisoned wine. Claudius dies, and Hamlet dies immediately after achieving his revenge. (5.2)
  • Fortinbras finds the bodies of the deceased

    Fortinbras finds the bodies of the deceased
    Fortinbras enters to find dead bodies scattered on the floor. Horatio tells him the story of Hamlet. Fortinbras realizes that his success is on the death of Hamlet. Though he himself can not kill him with his own hands. Which he treats him as an honorable fallen hero while staking his own personal claim on the throne. Fortinbras also honors Hamlet at the end of the play. He points out that Hamlet is real royalty. (5.2)

    Hamlet had such a big impact on his people and kingdom. He wanted everyone to know the truth about King Claudius and King Old Hamlet. Hamlet wanted justice for his father and to make sure his friends and family were safe and trusted their leader. (5.2)
  • Queen Gertrude drinks the poisoned cup

    Queen Gertrude drinks the poisoned cup
    Claudius had a plan to kill Hamlet during the fight. He had a cup of water for Hamlet to drink for the fight but Claudius decided to put poison in the cup so it could kill him during the fight. Queen Gertrude did not know about the poison in the cup and picked up Hamlet's cup instead of hers. She falls to the ground and starts shouting "No, no, the drink,—O my dear Hamlet—The drink, the drink! I am poisoned." says the Queen. (5.3)
  • Hamlet and Laertes are injured

    Hamlet and Laertes are injured
    Hamlet and Laertes are both struck with the poisoned sword.

Hamlet wounds Laertes with his own poisoned blade causing Laertes to fall as well. He truly seems to feel guilty for he tells Osric that he has been "justly killed" with his own treachery. (5.2)
