Battle of Britain
In the summer and fall of 1940, German and British air forces clashed in the skies over the United Kingdom, locked in the largest sustained bombing campaign. Although the Germans had more planes and pilots, the British were able to fight them off and win the battle.

axis powers break non-aggression pact
The German-Soviet Nonaggression Pact fell apart when Nazi forces invaded the Soviet Union. On September 3, France and Great Britain declared war on Germany. Two years after that, Hitler scrapped his pact with Stalin and sent some 3 million Nazi soldiers pouring into the Soviet Union on June 22, 1941. Attack on Pearl Harbor
Japanese attack on 'Pearl Harbor' American navel base in Hawaii. Japan had attacked the US Pacific fleet to stop it from intervening with its plans in Southeast Asia. This attack stopped the US policy of 'isolationism', shortly after the US joined WWII. Also it was this attack that led to the US dropping the two bombs 'Hiroshima' and 'Nagasaki' on Japan. Bataan Death March

Atomic Bomb # 1 - Hiroshima
USA dropped its first atomic bomb Hiroshima on Japan on the 6th of August 1945. The explosion wiped out 90 percent of the city and 80,000 people were killed. After three days another bomb on was dropped and Japan's Emperor immediately announced his unconditional surrender in World War II.
