Toussaint was a former slave himself and is self-educated which is another reason many enslaved people look to this commander as a beacon of hope.

    Toussaint has returned control of Saint Domingue to the French. The French originally controlled Saint Domingue, but after the British invaded, Toussaint had to fight to get control back. After proving himself as an excellent leader, Saint Domingue was brought back to the French. This has been a major success for Toussaint and many are expecting him to keep up this momentum in the future.

    After Toussaint returned control of the colony to the French, his power over Saint Domingue and its citizens continued to grow. This has brought him to almost rule over the island like it is his own and his growing influence over the islands citizens shows no sign of stopping. With Toussaint in an even higher position of power, many feel prepared for whatever may come next in the revolution as long as Toussaint remains their leader.

    Civil War Breaks Out Between Louverture and Rigaud
    A civil war has broken out between these two leaders over control for the colony. Toussaint Louverture has proved himself as the more powerful leader many times and his followers are hopeful that he will be able to do it again. Rigaud on the other hand currently controls the southern portion of the colony and is a significant source of power in Saint Domingue. Many believe this war will be won through economics and politics, but there are still various ideas as this war begins to take place.

    The War of Knives has Left Toussaint Victorious Again
    This war has just been won by Toussaint as his army defeated the remains of Rigaud's soldiers causing Rigaud to leave for France. This war was extremely violent from both sides and lasted for about a year. Despite great effort from Rigaud, Toussaint ultimately came out on top and is now working on rebuilding Saint Domingue's society after the intense war. This victory only continues to prove that Toussaint is extremely powerful and will do almost anything for the people of Saint Domingue.

    Toussaint's death
    Sadly, the leader of the Haitian Revolution, Toussaint Louverture, has passed away after being cruelly tricked. He was promised freedom if he moved all of his troops into the French army but he soon realized that freedom was not going to be granted. Unfortunately, it was too late for him to fix his mistake and he was captured and shipped off to France where he ultimately died in prison.

    Aftermath of the Revolution
    Haiti officially gained its independence and became an individual country. Also during this time, multiple former generals from Toussaint's army came to positions of power in an attempt to lead the people of Haiti. The Haitian Revolution not only brought great change to Haiti but also inspired changes in the Americas. One of the events this revolution can be connected to was the Louisiana Purchase which gave the Americas a valuable piece of land.
