Henry Parkes
Henry Parkes, premier of New South Wales, made a speech in Tenterfield. He convinced everyone to discuss federation by saying that time has come to become a country, not go through war like north America but do it in peace. -
Formal meeting
People form each parliament including New Zealand, in the Australian Federation Conference met in Melbourne. They discussed and agreed on, colonies prosperity and interest in who would be served by the royal family. -
National Australian Convention
In 1891 Sydney the National Australian Convention. Each colony having a representative (New South Wales) , Andrew Inglis Clark (Tasmania), Samuel Griffith (Queensland) and Charles Kingston (South Australia). Made a draft of the constitution of Australia on April 9th 1891. -
Big Depression
1891-1894 there was a big depression and lots of people lost their jobs and had no money. While this happened there was no time to think about federation. -
Drawn Away From Federation
People were drawn away from federation. They had constitution and that Australian's would have a chance to vote with or against the constitution. -
peoples conference
In New South Wales Corowa there was a peoples conference. They agreed on early federation is a good idea so that the country can be wealthy know and in the future. -
Women
In South Australia Women got the right to vote. -
Hobart Conference
They had a conference in Hobart. Queensland decided to drop out because they would lose their Pacific Islanders that did their can farming. New Zealand also dropping out. -
Referendum
1897-1898 The national Australasian convention took place every colony having a representative to go except Queensland because they were against federation. There was also a special election named referendum it was held so people could vote on the re-draft constitution. But New south Wales vote didn't get approved and Queensland, Western Australia also didn't take part. -
Capital and Western Australia
They decided to make a new capital to be established because New South Wales and Melbourne were fighting to be capital. It was also final that Western Australia didn't think federation was the greatest thing for them. -
Agreeing To The Common Wealth of Australia
It was past the commonwealth of Australia by Victoria on the 9th of July 1900. So then they declared on the 1901 the 1st of January they would become the commonwealth of Australia. All the states were part of this except Western Australia. But in August the colony of Western Australia agreed to become part of the commonwealth of Australia. -
Commonwealth of Australia
It became real the commonwealth of Australia. There also became the first governor general of Australia Lord Hopetoun and the first Prime Minister of Australia Edmund Barton.
