First Gun
Chinese Fire Lance. It was a spear. Or lance, coated in gunpowder. It could act as a flamethrower, and it could launch projectiles. It was a bamboo tube with gunpowder inside, that could be loaded with projectile or darts that when the gunpowder was ignited would shoot the projectile out. When an enemy saw how effective this was, they started their own gunpowder and gun design. -

The first Gun (Continued)
The firearms were invented to break through armor, which made swords almost useless. They would also help to discourage violence by making the act of defending someone easier. If you could protect yourself then you would be less likely to be robbed. -

The Matchlock
The first dated drawing of a match lock was dated back to 1475. By the 16th century the match lock was commonly used. The Portuguese are reported to have introduced the matchlock to the Chinese. The matchlock allowed for faster firing of the gun. -

first shotgun
The first shotgun was a simple rifle type gun, but was loaded with "shot", -a bunch of little bullets/pebbles/gravel- instead of one small round ball. This also allowed for easier hunting because of the wide shot area of the “shot” it made it easier to hit a moving target. This also allowed for bigger families, because hunting was less of a problem. -
First Sniper rifle
The first sniper rifle was simply a high-power rifle that could shoot up to 800 yards. It was first made during the American revolutionary war. This was very remarkable for a gun at that time. This encouraged both sides to make guns that allowed for more accuracy at a longer distance. -
First rifle
The rifle had grooves cut into the inside of the barrel causing the bullet to spin thus reducing air resitance, increasing range and stability, greatly improving accuracy. This gun's invention finaaly allowed for pointeed bullets, instead of the metal ball. -
First Pointed Bullet
The first pointed bullet had a hollow base that expanded when it was fired, allowing it to grip the rifiling, along the inside of the barrel of the gun. -
Shotgun ammo
In 1831, a man named Augustus Demodion patented a cartridge that held small shot. -
Colt
There is a saying that goes, “God made men, but Samuel Colt made them equal.” This is because Samuel Colt made what is known as a revolver. The firing mechanism consisted of two parts, the hammer, and the trigger. When the hammer was pulled back, the hammer rotated the cylinder where the bullets were, and sparked the primer to fire the gun. The trigger released the hammer when it was pulled back. The trigger was considered “single action” because when pulled it only caused one thing, the fi -
The first Gattling Gun
The Gatling gun was designed by the American inventor Dr. Richard J. Gatling in 1861 and patented November 4, 1862. Some argue that this was not a real machine gun because it was required a person to crank it to make it shoot. -
The First maxim Gun
Some people believe The Maxim gun was the first machine gun. The first prototype was demonstrated to guests in October 1884. The first military unit in the world to receive the Maxim was the Singapore Volunteer Corps in 1889. -
Red dot sight
The red dot sight can be mounted to a gun at any distance from the person because distance does not affect the use of the sight. This also allows the sight to be used with heavy recoil weapons. This allowed for the user to see exactly where the bullet will strike the target.
