Gujrat (Urdu/Punjabi: گجرات) is a city in Pakistan. It is the capital of Gujrat District and the Gujrat Tehsil subdivision in the Punjab Province. Gujrat is situated on the bank of Chenab River, situated about 120 kilometers (75 miles) north of Lahore, the capital city of Punjab province, and 150 kilometers from Islamabad, the capital of Pakistan. -

Although Gujrat had been dicovered by a Hindu Raja Bachan Pal Gujjar in 460 B.C. and By Alexander before him but this capturing of throne continued.Now Sultan Shahab-ud-Din Muhammad Ghauri had captured Punjab`s this era and made it a Muslim State. -

Now Zahir-ud-din Muhammad Babur have invaded the sub-continent and entered the era when he was invited to overthrow Ibrahim Lodhi. He made his route through Lahore to Delhi but he also visited Gujrat and stated that it is the only beauty of Punjab. -

Shah Daula a very nice muslim sufi met Sufi Saint of the city. He was a great person and also has a mausoleum at Gujrat.People come at his mausoleum till now for making their wishes come true.(Shah Daula Peer). -
The Sikh`s Return
The Mughal Empire could not be controlled because no other Mughal was remaining to capture the throne.So those muslims in Gujrat returned to Hinduism again and so why they recaptured Gujrat.Now Sikhs knew the new ways of trading so they started trading all over the sub-continent and then the world. -

This was the Grear Sikh Dynasty ruling in Gujrat and the founder was Dhillon Clan who was a member of a powerful Jatt Sikh Family. -
The British Invades
Now British have entered the sub-continent.The main reason of there entrance was the trade through Chenab River. Now british got to know that India is a rich country.It is so because the currency used by India was rupee and if it was converted to dollars , 1 rupee was a100$.British armies fought with sikhs (at Gujrat) and they declared themselves the emperors of the reign.Now the empire was in the hold of British and they established the East India Trade Company. -

Many developments were held at Gujrat because of the British rule. Train was usually and constantly used in India-England route so Chenab river was gifted with a strong railway bridge which iis still in use today. -

The Independance of Pakistan
As the Gujrat city is the part of Pakistan so Pakistan was thought to be made.So some of the sikhs with poverty thought to migrate to their part (modern day India) and so they did! -

Finally the independance came to Pakistan and many rich sikh families of Gujrat started rebelling on Muhammad Ali Jinnah and Mahatma Gandhi.It was a big fight because on the border many muslims were killed and when this news came to Gujrat area, muslim started to kill sikhs and hindus.Many hindus and sikhs tried to save their lives and treasury but they couldn`t because muslims were very angry on sikhs for those assasinations on their muslim brothers on the border! -
Peace in Gujrat
Now it seemed that their is some peace in the Gujrat area.Although some of the 250 villages were aware of partition.Now people had an open freedom to practice their religions.Now it was developing and had a contribution of higher education and brave military officers. -
The Bravery
Now India started a war on the Wagah Border Lahore.The war was started just at night.But still there was a brave officer who made the war stop till 5 days , the name is Maj.Raja Aziz Bhatti, the only person who saved Pakistan and he beloged to Gujrat! -

According to the 1998 census of Pakistan the total population of Gujrat district was 2,048,008 of which 1,026,000 are males and 1,022,000 are females, with a population density of 642 persons per square kilometre. Over 25.62% of the population was recorded as being urban. -
University of Gujrat
The University of Gujrat is one of the new major public sector universities in Punjab. The university was established under Act IX of 2004 by Government of Punjab, Pakistan on February 23, 2004 to cater for the higher education needs of the population of Central Punjab which includes districts of Gujrat, Sialkot and Gujranwala in addition to city of Wazirabad. -
