    Gujrat (Urdu/Punjabi: گجرات) is a city in Pakistan. It is the capital of Gujrat District and the Gujrat Tehsil subdivision in the Punjab Province. Gujrat is situated on the bank of Chenab River, situated about 120 kilometers (75 miles) north of Lahore, the capital city of Punjab province, and 150 kilometers from Islamabad, the capital of Pakistan.

Now british got to know that India is a rich country.It is so because the currency used by India was rupee and if it was converted to dollars , 1 rupee was a100$.British armies fought with sikhs (at Gujrat) and they declared themselves the emperors of the reign.Now the empire was in the hold of British and they established the East India Trade Company.

    Finally the independance came to Pakistan and many rich sikh families of Gujrat started rebelling on Muhammad Ali Jinnah and Mahatma Gandhi.It was a big fight because on the border many muslims were killed and when this news came to Gujrat area, muslim started to kill sikhs and hindus.Many hindus and sikhs tried to save their lives and treasury but they couldn`t because muslims were very angry on sikhs for those assasinations on their muslim brothers on the border!

    According to the 1998 census of Pakistan the total population of Gujrat district was 2,048,008 of which 1,026,000 are males and 1,022,000 are females, with a population density of 642 persons per square kilometre. Over 25.62% of the population was recorded as being urban.

    The University of Gujrat is one of the new major public sector universities in Punjab. The university was established under Act IX of 2004 by Government of Punjab, Pakistan on February 23, 2004 to cater for the higher education needs of the population of Central Punjab which includes districts of Gujrat, Sialkot and Gujranwala in addition to city of Wazirabad.
