Persian War
The Persian Empire tried to conquer Greece 3 times and failed all 3 times. The Persian empire wanted their revenge after the Athenians helped one of their colonies residing in the Persian empire. The Athenians won the first battle, Battle of Marathon. The second battle, Battle of Thermopylae was another loss for the Persians. The third battle, the Battle of Salamis was a sea battle in which the Greeks sunk 1/3 of the Persian fleet. The Greeks ended up winning the Persian war. -

Golden Age of Athens
Athens became very wealthy as the leader of the Delian league as the Persian war had concluded. The prosperity in Athens led to their golden age. Pericles was the leader of Athens during the golden age. He made Athens beautiful, including building the Parthenon. He increased the democracy and created the strongest navy. During the golden age they had 3 different types of colums, doric, ionic, and Corinthian. The type of art they had was Classical Art. -

Peloponnesian War
The Peloponnesian war was a war that started in 431 BC. The cause of the war was that Athens became too powerful as the leader of the Delian League. When the war started, Pericles, the leader of Athens, brought all of the citizens behind the city's walls for protection. Athens undergoes a plague, causing them to become weak and 1/3 of the population dies, including pericles. Sparta won the war. Both city-states were weak, so Philip II conquered both of them. -

Alexander the Great came into power
Alexander III was the son of king Philip II. He was born in Macedonia. He was taught by Aristotle. When his father was assassinated in 336 BC he took over his fathers very powerful kingdom. Alexander continued to grow his fathers kingdom by conquering Greece, Anatolia, Egypt, Persia, then India.After reaching India, Alexander turned back and shortly later died of malaria. His empire was split up between his generals
