Fighting for the Smokies
Through the 1920's ans 1930's, people fought for the Smokies to become a park. Some of the leaders in that were George Masa, Horace Kephart, Paul Fink, Ann Davis, and David Chapman. -
Creation
The park was created in 1934. It wasn't dedicated until 1940 by President Roosevelt. -
Lumber
The Little River Lumber company is done cutting lumber in Tremont. -
Moving
The people living there were asked to leave their mountain homes. The Walker sisters refused to leave. They stayed until they died.
