    The assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand was the event that encouraged Austria-Hungary to declare war on Serbia. Serbia was allied with Russia, France, United States, Italy, British colonies, and more. Austria-Hungary was teamed with the Ottoman Empire and Germany. Many of these countries declared war on eachother and caused heartache and loss for many.

James Mongomery Flagg illustrated a political poster with Uncle Sam pointing and directing citizens to join the Army. The goverment printed over four million copies of this image.     Milton Glaser is best known for his 1977 creation of the "I love NY" logo using a heart in place of the word love. The purpose of the logo was to boom tourism in the state of New York. More than attracting tourists, it became a pop culture icon.

    Apple introduces the first Macintosh computer. The original mac was known as the 128k because the amount of storage it could hold. It stayed on the market until October of 1985. Macintosh computers are quite a popular computer for graphic designers.

    Not realizing the impact he would make, Tim Berners-Lee proposed his idea to store and link data together using a computer to acces it. He suggested this to a European organization called CERN. CERN had started using this system by Christmas of that year, and the public by 1991. The world wide web has impacted all types of industries including graphic design.

    The terrorist attacks of September 11th was one of the biggest tragedies in the history of the United States. Several planes were hijacked and flown into the World Trade Center and Pentagon. One flight that was hijacked to be flown into The White House was overtaken by passangers and crashed in a field. This event was the spark of the war on terror that we are still fighting against until today. It has also increased security at airports that makes air travel a hassel for commuters.
