It isn't until the surrender of Japan, that the war was finally over.

    The last ever cigarette advertisements take place on December 31, 1970. Nixon signs an act banning cigarette advertisements on televisions and radio known as the Public Health Cigarette Smoking Act. This was especially surprising since smoking was so openly done in the mid-1900s, it was just a normal part of their life. Although this ban didn't stop characters on shows to stop smoking.
