Founding
G. R. Whitfield School, founded by George Roscoe Whitfield, was formerly Pitt County Training School. It was the only high school for black students in Pitt County. -
Desegregation
Dormitories were built in 1923. In the 1960's the school was desegregated -
Naming
In 1967, the school was renamed G.R.Whitfield School. -
Upgrades
The school has recently upgraded the front office and the gym floor. -
Today
Today G.R. Whitfield is a PreK-8 school in Grimesland, NC. The campus includes 3 main buildings, the newest addition was completed in 2001.
