Jacques Cartier
The king of France sent Cartier on a voyage to find 2 things:
1. A new shipping route from France to the Orient to allow French traders to import products to Europe
2. To find precious gems and gold to make French (even more) RICH -
Samuel de Champlain
From 1603 to his death in 1635, Champlain has crossed the Atlantic Ocean many times. He had originally set out to find new riches for France and a route to the Oreint (like Cartier).
Champlain was a skilled cartographer, so his voyages provided detail maps of the Atlantic Coast, waterways of the St. Lawerence and a view of the interior of the Continent. -
The Jesuits
Originally found in 1534 by Ignatius Loyola, the first Jesuits arrived in New France in 1611. The Jesuits had 2 goals in mind:
1. To promote Roman Catholic to the First Nation Peoples
2. To establish a school for boys -
The Ursuline Nuns
Widowed at 22 with a 6 month old son, Marie Martin decided to enter the Convent of St. Ursula and become a nun. After a number of visions, she believed that she was destined to go to Quebec and convert the First Nations people to Christianity.
In 1639 she and 2 Ursuline Sisters arrived in Quebec where they established a convent. She built the Ursuline mission, making it one of the strongest arms of the Catholic Church in Quebec. -
All Native Americans Tribes Gather
All the tribes gather in a clearing near Montreal to make peace with themselve and the French.
The next day, 38 tribes agree to make peace with the French. -
Swedish Man, Par Cont visits...
Cont notices that there are only 15 000 French people, while there were 1 000 000 English. -
Lawerence Transports the Acadians
Lawerence kicks the Acadians out of Acadia and forced them to move to other places. Most Acadians settled down in what is now Louisiana. -
The beggining of the 7 year war
The Seven Year War was the climax of fighting between the French and the British. It was fought all over the world. It began in 1756 and lasted all the way to 1763. -
British capture Louisbourg
They captured and destroyed the French Fortress -
English build their own Fort in Halifax
After tearing down the French fort, Louisbourge, the Brits decided to build their own fort in Halifax -
The Capture of Quebec
General James Wolfe led the Capture of Quebec. Late at night that day, the British army climed up Anse-au-Foulon to attack the French from the west. When the French Woke up the next day, they were surprised to see a whole troop of British soldiers waiting only a mile away from them on the Plains of Abraham. -
Battle on the Plains of Abraham
On the morning of September 13 1759, Montcalm and his soldiers rushed out of Quebec and advanced on the British. Unfortunately for Montcalm, his best troops had been sent out elsewhere.
At aproximately 9:30 O'clock, The Brits created disorder, while the French were still forming.
At 10 O'clock, the Battle began. It lasted no more then 15 minutes. The British won and the French were forced to retreat back into Quebec.
Both Generals, Wolfe and Montcalm, were killed in that battle.
