First Fleet Arrives
On the 20th of January, in 1788 the First Fleet arrived at Botany Bay filled with convicts and marines on a mission to colonize Australia. The fleet consisted of 9 transport ships laden with criminals, food supplies and tools and 2 warships to protect the fleet from any pirates or foreigners that wanted to attack them. -
Eureka Stockade
Many diggers gathered at Ballarat to rebel against the use of miner licenses as they were furious about the disadvantages about having them. Miner licenses did not allow them to buy property and police officers were always collecting taxes from them, even when they did not earn anything. They built a stockade and Victorian Authorities tracked them down and opened fire. -
Licenses Abolished
Victorian Authorities finally gave up and abolished the miner licenses.
