Vespucci was the first to realize in his travels that he had been to a new continent and challenged Columbus's beliefs that they had been to Asia. I thought this was interesting because although Columbus is who took him to the Americas he is who corrected him and helped him realize they had discovered new land.

I selected this event as many times here in the U.S when we think of the age of exploration many of us think of Columbus and his discoveries during this time. However many other voyagers were making discoveries of their own.

Alexander von Humboldt, decides to explore south america by land. He and the people he was traveling with explored by taking horses canoes. I though this once as a lot of explorers seemed to just being doing costal exloration.
