The Portoguese explorer Diogo Cao, lands in the Congo River, this resulted in the King wanting Africa to be explored. -

Amerigo Vespucci explores the South America Coast
Vespucci was the first to realize in his travels that he had been to a new continent and challenged Columbus's beliefs that they had been to Asia. I thought this was interesting because although Columbus is who took him to the Americas he is who corrected him and helped him realize they had discovered new land. -

British navigators adopted the conventional Meridional Compass, which helped them navigate. I selected this as this invention helped make travel more effective. -

The spanish found and settled gold mines in different areas of central America which helped incrase the Spanish crown economic status. -

I selected this event since it took 88 years after the initial voyage that stumbled across the Americas before there was a recorded attempt to colonize. -
First Successful North American Settlement "James Town"
The english King James allowed investors to settle in North America, known as Jamestown. This is really where the expansion of the English in North America began. -

I selected this event as many times here in the U.S when we think of the age of exploration many of us think of Columbus and his discoveries during this time. However many other voyagers were making discoveries of their own. -

Alexander von Humboldt, decides to explore south america by land. He and the people he was traveling with explored by taking horses canoes. I though this once as a lot of explorers seemed to just being doing costal exloration.
