Annexation of Crimea
Russia had a lot of influence on the peninsula of Crimea a large portion of their population is Russian and the mass majority of them were all for joining Russia. when the Referendum came around on march 16th the US and EU denounced it as illegal. The referendum was meant to confirm a preliminary vote to secede. Join Russia or enhance their own independence. Ukraine then went to say its okay to use your weapons in self defense which ended its policy of restraint. -
Ukrainian-European Union Association Agreement
They signed political parts of the EU-Ukraine AA in march 21, 2014 they both sign the remaining sections the AA on June 27 and will enter into force once every Eu member including ukraine. It had replaced the EU- Ukraine Partnership and Cooperation Agreement.It provides a shared commitment to a close, lasting relationship based on common values, full democratic principles, rule of law, good governance and human rights and fundamental freedoms.
