This led to rapid settlement of the western United States. It made it much easier to transport goods over long distance. It also resulted in rail companies and their executives receiving lavish amounts of money and land. -
Political Machines
They controlled the activities of political parties in the city to make sure their candidates were elected, and made sure the city government worked to their advantage.
