Homestead Act
The Homestead Act was passed to increase the rate of urbanization in the west. The act granted families 160 acres of land, in return they had to work on it and produce crops and livestock for 5 years before they were given ownership of the land. -
The Dawes Act
The Dawes Act broke up Native American Lands to try and get the Native Americans to Adapt to US Society. The government claimed over 90 million acres of land and and sold it to non-Native Americans. -
Interstate Commerce Act
Stopped Monopolies from being created on the Shipping business and required railroads to publicize their shipping rates. The act required the rates to be reasonable and just. -
The Sherman Antitrust Act
The Sherman Antitrust act Outlawed practices that Restricted trade and made monopolization illegal. -
Pure Food and Drug Act
Prohibited the sale of Altered or Misbranded drugs and food. Also laid the foundation for the FDA. -
Federal Trade Commission Act
The Federal Trade Commission Act set the grounds for the Federal Trade Commission (FTC). The FTC protects buyers and promotes competition by stopping unfair business practices. -
The Clayton Antitrust Act
Strengthened the Sherman Antitrust Act. Prohibited Price Discrimination, outlawed exclusive deal contracts, and Restricted practices that could reduce competition. -
Keating-Owen Child Labor Act
Banned the sale of goods from factories that employed children under 14 in manufacturing, children under 16 in mines, and children who worked over 8 hours a day. -
18th Amendment
The 18th Amendment banned the manufacturing, sale, or transportation of Alcohol. The 18th Amendment was later repealed by the 21st Amendment in 1933 -
The 19th Amendment
The 19th Amendment gave Women the right to vote. Leader such as Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Susan B. Anthony helped get Women rights by founding the National Woman Suffrage Association which aimed to make women and men equal.
