Himmler
In 1929 Himmler was appointed as the head of the SS and hitlers personal body guard, and would become Hitlers right hand man. He was obsessed with racial purity and created the first concentration camp in 1933. He committed suicide in the custody of the allies on May 23, 1945. -
Adolf Hitler
He was the leader of the Nazi party and chancellor of Germany from 1933-1945. He ordered the killing of millions Jewish and other interracial people he considered racially inferior. He committed suicide on April 30, 1945. -
Luftwaffe
The Luftwaffe was the official Nazi Airforce name. It had previously been disbanded beause of the Treaty of Versallies, but in 1939 it grew to become one of the strongest, most doctrinally advanced, and most battle-experienced air forces. After the defeat of the Third Reich, the Luftwaffe was disbanded in 1946. -
Blitzkrieg
This was German for "lightning war". It was a type of war movement that used a heavy of use artillery, tanks, infantry, and air power to swiftly and rapidly overwhelm and break through enemy lines and keep moving forward. It was designed to keep the enemy off balance and unable to respond effectively because the enemy would have already moved! It Was very affective for Germany between 1939 and 1941. -
The Battle of Britain
The Battle of Britain was a battle fought between the Germans and the British. It was fought over Britain between July and October 1940. It was the first battle to be fought entirely in the air, and it was a result of a German plan to win air superiority over Southern Britain and the English Channel. The Germans won the battle and it was a prelude to the invasion of Britain. -
Operation Barbarossa
Operation Barbarossa was the invasion of Russia on June 22, 1941. It was a massive attack based on blitzkrieg. Germany used 3 million soldiers, 3680 tanks, 7184 guns,1830 planes, and 750,000 horses. -
El Alamein
This battle was held in Africa. Germany was planning to attack the U.S., but The U.S. knew what the German attack was going to be like, so they used that to their advantage and set up land mines so the Germans could not attack from the south. They then launched ‘Operation Supercharge’, which took the Germans by surprise. The Allied victory at El Alamein lead to the retreat of the Afrika Korps and the German surrender in North Africa in May 1943. -
Battle of the Bulge
This was also called "Operation Ardennes" or Operation “Watch on the Rhine” which was intended to split British and US forces in northern France. Attacking through the Ardennes Forest in eastern Belgium on December 16, hundreds of German tanks and several hundred thousand German troops broke through the thinly held American lines. Desert Fox
German General ,Erwin Rommel, AKA Desert Fox, is given the option of facing a public trial for treason or taking cyanide for helping assassinate Adolf Hitler. He took the cyanide. Details of the failed assassination got back to Hitler and he also found out that Rommel was contacting the conspirators. He was known for his fox-like sneak attacks. -
WWII Ends
When the Axis Powers surrenderd the second world was was over. This was about a week after Adolf Hitler committed suicide. Japan held on for a few more months, but after the atomic bomb was dropped, Japan also surrended.
