    The Reichstag fire happened just a month after Hitler became chancellor. It is believed that he purposely had the fire started so that he could blame foreign communists. This allowed him to gain more power and become a dictator.
  • Anschluss

    After World War 1 the Astro-Hungarian empire collapeses. Austria and Germany want to form a union, but this goes a gainst the Treaty of Versailles. Eventually they formed a union and Germany and Austria were united.
  • Munich Agreement

    Munich Agreement
    Germany, France, Italy and Great Britain sign the Munich Agreement. This was an attempt at appeasement where Germany was given part of the Czech of Slovakia and they agreed to take not invade any more countries.
  • Non-aggression pact

    Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union signed a non aggression pact just before World War 2 starts. This pact was very important to Germany so that they could avoid a two front war. Germany had to give up some land to the USSR so that they would agree to sign the pact.

    Germamny invades Poland breaking the Munich agreement signed a year before. The USSR hleps Germany and invades Poland from the east. Germany and the USSR both take control of half of Poland. This is the event that started World War 2.

    Germany continues it's takeover of Europe and invades Denmark Norway, Belgium and the Nehterlands. In just two months Germany takes control of all four of these countries. Germany also invades France at about the same time and takes control of its northern half.

    Germany breaks the non aggression pact with the Soviet Union. Along with some of the other Axis powers Germany invades the USSR. They manage to take control of major cities including Moscow and St. Petersburg.

    Paris is Liberated
    Paris is liberated after 4 years of Nazi control over the area. German soldiers in Paris disobeyed the order to burn and decimate the city. German resistance in Paris was light and the allied forces overwhelmed them fairly easily.
  • Hitler commits suicide

    Hitler commits suicide
    When Germany's defeat seemed imminent Hitler commited suicide. Hitler was stuck in his bunker for weeks before he decided to commit suicide. He thought that it was his only option.
  • Germany Surrenders

    Germany Surrenders
    Germany surrenders unconditionaly to the allied powers shortly after Hitler commits suicide. German vicotry was impossible, the Allied forces had control of Germany. V-E day was a celebration of the triumph over the Nazi's
