Germany Occupies Rhineland
Germany occupies a highly industrialized space controlled by the League of Nations. This is in direct violation of the Treaty of Versailles. The allies do nothing about it and Germany starts to militarize. -
Germany Invades Czechoslovakia
Germany quickly absorbs Czechoslovakia into its growing area and takes control of most of its natural resources. The country was handed over to Germany by France and Great Britain in the Munich Pact. It was done in the name of peace to try and keep the country from taking more land. -
Germany Invades Poland
Germany and the Soviet Union simultaneously invaded Poland starting WWII. The Poles fought back, but were crushed in just a few days. The British and French soon declare war on Germany. -
Evacuation at Dunkirk
British and French troops were surrounded by the Germans at the port of Dunkirk. The Naizis halted their advance for a few days. This allowed time for almost all of the troops to be evacuated back to Great Britain. -
France Surrenders
Paris is taken by the Nazis and soon afterwards the French government surrenders. The French put up a tough and bloody fight, but are eventually surrounded. It was seven weeks after the invasion of France began. -
Germany Invades Russia
Unable to gain air superiority over Great Britain, Hitler turned his forces to the east. He wanted to take over Russia and seize its oil feilds and natural resources. The Russians retreated and the Nazi supply lines got stretched thin. -
Construction of the Atlantic Wall
Hitler ordered the building of the Atlantic wall. It was part of his plan for a fortress Europe that would be impossible to break into. The wall extended from Norway to southern France. It is one of the largest construction projects in the history of the world. -
Rommel in Charge of Atlantic Wall
After Rommel's failed Afrika campaign, Hitler put him in charge of inspecting the Atlantic Wall. Rommel toured the whole length of the wall, finding its many flaws and adding fortifications to strengthen it. He added mines and barbed wire to slow attacks on the beaches. -
American Paratroopers Drop in Europe
On the night before D-Day, thousands of American Paratroopers drop into the feilds behind Normandy to knock out communications and guns. Many are killed but the assault goes as planned. It created confusion and knocked out guns that saved sountless lives. -
D-Day
D-Day or Operation Overlord was the largest amphibious invasion of all time. The allied countries consisting of Americans, British, and Canadians landed on 5 beaches codename Utah, Omaha, Juno, Gold, and Sword. In the first 24 hours the allies were able to break through the Atlantic Wall and establish a foothold in europe.
