Headright System
Land grants of 200 acres were given to the head of the family plus 50 more acres per family member were given to populate the region. It made people want to come to Georgia and the population grew. -
University of Georgia
University of Georgia became the first public university in the United States. The University was cheaper than other universities in the country, so more people came and Georgia became more populated. -
Louisville
It was a popular trading area for cotton and tobacco. It helped Georgia economically. -
Cotton Gin
Eli Whitney invented a machine that separated cotton and its seeds. It was easier to process the cotton so the owners got more land to grow it, and the population of slaves increased. -
Yazoo Land Fraud
Companies bribed government officials to let them buy land that people were living on. Some people had to pay a large amount of money to the companies to keep their land, but many people lost their land and homes. -
Land Lottery
People bought tickets which were put it in a box, then drawn to win land or nothing. Some people won land and restarted their lives. -
Railroads
The Western and Atlantic Railroad Company created most of the railroad system that helped transport people and goods. This helped increase the population and was a faster way to travel. -
Baptist/Methodist
Many people came to the Georgia Baptist Convention. The population increased because many people stayed to be around other people of their same religion.
