He was a member of the southern bloc of Senate.He was a staunch opponent of Civil Rights,but begun to reach out to blacks in the 1970's.After he practiced law he joined the Navy where he served in the South Pacific during World War 2 where he eventually rose to rank a lieutenant commander. -

1956 State Flag
The flag was used from 1956-2001.It featured a prominent Confederate battle flag and was designed by Southern Democrat John Sammons Bell. He was a World War 2 veteran and attorney and was an outspoken supporter for segregation. -
Sibley Commission
It was set up by Govenor Vandiver in order to gauge Georgia's attitudes towards desegregation. Vandiver in the end accepted the Commissions findings. -
Hamilton Holmes and Charlayne Hunter
They were the first two African Americans admitted to the University of Georgia, one of many segregated institutes.They filed a civil suit.Thomas Brahana asked his students to write an essay two said "What I don't understand is why we don't mind eating with a Negro in the kitchen but we wouldn't want to eat with him in our dining room"and"The Negros in the South definitely live at a lower level.I can't see how people who call themselves citizens of a democracy allow these conditions to exist." -
Ivan Allen Jr.
He lead the city through an era of significant physical and economic growth and maintaining the calm during the Civil Rights Movement.While other southern cities were experiencing recurring violence,they were not because they were by Mayor Allen who broke to a more peaceful path to integration. -
The Albany Movement
It was the first mass movement in the civil rights era,its goal was to desegregate an entire community but resulted in the jailing of more than 1,000 African Americans.Martin Luther King Jr. got involved when him and hundreds more were arrested in one week.He left eight months later because had failed,but planning to apply it to Birmingham but with Albany's failure came Birmingham's success. -

It ended segregation in public and banned employment discrimination and basis of race,color,religion,sex,or national origin.Its considered one of the crowning legislative achievements of the Civil Rights movement.Southern members of Congress didn't agree. -

Their name was used in 1912,and originated from a term for a Native American Warrior.They are the only franchise to have won as Boston,Milwaukee,and Atlanta which was three different cities.They were founded in Boston,Massachusetts in 1871 who continued to move until 1966. -

He was a American politician who was the 75th governor of Georgia.He came to prominence as a staunch segregation after refusing to serve black customers in a Atlanta Restaurant in defince of Civil Rights.He later served as Lieutenant Governor when Jimmy Carter was Governor. -
Atlanta Hawks
They were founded in 1946 and moved from New York,to Illinois,to Milwaukee,to St.Louis,until they finally stopped in Atlanta in 1968.They only drafted four players who was chosen to be in the NBA All-Star Games and one who was traded to them from the Utah Jazz right after the draft.Their names were Bisons,Tri-Cities Blackhawks,and then the Hawks. -

Student Non-Violent Coordinating Committee
The SNCC was founded by young people who were dedicated to nonviolence and direct action tactics.Although Martin and others hoped for it to sever as the youth wing of the (SCLC),but the students remained independent and generating their own projects and strategies.According to the internet "Although ideological differences eventually caused SNCC and SCLC to be at odds, the two organizations worked side by side throughout the early years of the civil rights movement." -

He was a American politician,diplomat,and activist.He was a pastor and early leader in Civil Rights Movement serving as director of the SCLC and close confidant to Martin Luther King Jr..He later in life became active in politics serving as the first Georgia U.S. Congressman,then United States Ambassador to the United Nations,and Mayor of Atlanta,but since leaving politics he has founded or served a large number of organizations working for issues in public policy and political lobbying. -

He was a American politician and attorney from Gerogia.He was elected at the age of 35 as the first African-American of any major city in the South and served 3 terms making him the second longest-serving mayor after six-term William B. Harsfield.After he died the Atlanta Hartsfield airport was re-named Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport to honor his service to the expansion of the airport,city,and people. -

It was offically known as the Games of the XXVI Olympaid.Atlanta was selected September 18,1990 in Tokyo,Japan although many thought it was a long shot since America had hosted 12 years earlier in Los Angeles.It was a bombing July 27 security guard Richard Jewell discovered it and notified law enforcement,and even though the evacuated as many people as possible spectator Alice Hawthorne was killed,111 others wounded,and Melih Uzunyol died of a heart of attack.
