    Paleo Indians are sometimes called "Clovis People." This trie of indians enterd our continet near the end of the ice age. Palio or Palaois in greek laungauge means "ancient." The tribes were no larger then 50 and no smaller than 20.

    Archaic
    In the Archaic period most of Georgia was oak or hickory hardwoos forest. Large animals that are now endangerd or extinct such as bison,horses,mastodons,mammoths,and camels. The middle Archaic is when the climate begin to start its change.

    Woodland

    Woodland
    The Woodland Indians roamed Georgia about 1000B.C. and 900 A.D. This certain period witnessed the beginning of the Mississippian. Woodland Indians built special mounds for cermonies and burials. Kolomoki Indian Mounds is the biggest Woodland settelment in Georgia,it contains 8 mounds, which 7 of the 8 have been preserved to provide sites for vistors. The Indians beleived in fair trading. They hunted with bows and arrows and also used them in the time of war.

    Mississippian

    During the Mississipipan period many mound building Native Americans flourished throughout the Western, Eastern, and Southern parts of the United States. This culture devolped near the Mississippi river. These indians grew most of there food. They also hunted, while also gathering nuts and berries. Also caught fish,shellfish, and turtle from all water sources.They lived in small huts made from straw and wooden beams.

    Hernando de Soto
    Hernando de Soto was the first Eouropean to explore the entire state of Georgia.Soto was born October 27, 1496 and died May 21,1542 due to fever. He and 600 men docked in Tampa Bay Flordia. They travled to Tallahasse Flordia and spent the winter of 1539-1540 with the Apalachee. Then travled north into South Georgia in Cairo. Travled all over Georgia. Then in May 21 1542 he died of small pox.

    The first 20 years of Georgia's colonazation was known as the "trustee Georgia"1732-1752. Georgia was governed by The Board of Trustees.King George II was the one who named Georgia.He signed a charter that created the colony.On April 21 1732 the governing board was created. The charter entitled the Englishmen thier rights. 71 men served as trustees during the Trust. The of the Trustees was "Non Sibi Sed Allis" (not for self, but for others.)

    The Georgia Salzburgers were German speaking colonist. They founded the town Ebenezer which is now Effingham County. They were not orginal settlers they arrived for momentary assitance.

    Highland Scots Arrive
    These people sailed from Inverness, Scotland. The ship was named Prince of Whales. They founded New Inverness which is now called Darien. The scots built a fort to replace Fort King George. This fort is located t the mouth of the Altamah River.

    On May 17,1758 he was elected royal govenor of Georgia.Ellis has been known as the second founder of Georgia. He was born in Ireland. Then on November 2,1760 he was forced outta office.

    John Reyonlds

    July 1754 Reynolds was voted govenor. He served 4 years he was the first royal govenor of Georgia. He he had no potential what so ever. He was married twice. His first wife was his younger sister. He had one daughter Maria Reynolds.Later he died of a paralytic stroke.

    Austin Dabney
    Dabney was a slave that fought against the British in the Revolutionary War. He was born in the late 1760's. He joined the Georgia Milita as a substitute. He was the only African-American to recieve land after the war was over.In 1830 he died at his home in Zebolun Georgia.

    James Wright was the third Royal Govenor of Georgia. He served in office from 1760 to 1782. Which followed with a brief inturuption of the American Revolution. Wright was born May, 8 1716 and died November 20,1785.

    The AMerican Revolution began in 1775. It contiued to escalate, up to the Boston Tea Party. A peace treaty was singed in 1783.Te war ended on September 3 1783.
  • Elijah Clark/Kettle Creek

    Elijah Clark/Kettle Creek
    Clarke was born in 1742. He was wounded in a fight with the Cherokee. He was the commander for a milita during the Battle of Alligator Creek.Then died on December 15, 1779. he died after commanding in many battles and wars. The battle of Kettle Creek pwas Febuary 14, 1779. This battle was fought during the American Revolution. The Georgia army was camped along the Little River which runs through Cook County.

    The Universty of Georgis was founded in 1785. It is located in Athens,Georgia. It is the largest and oldest college in Georgia.There are 3 diffrent college campuses located in Athens Georgia, Tifton Georgia, and Griffin Georgia.

    This Convention took place on May 25, 1787-September 17, 1787. This convention was held to fix problems with the United States Goverment.This was following with our freedom from Great Britan. This ended with the signing of the constitution.
  • Georgia Founded

    Georgia Founded
    The great state of Georgia was founded on January 2, 1788. The founder of Georgia is James Oglethorpe. King George II gave James O. a charter to start a colony which he would name Georgia. This colony would be between South Carolina and Flordia. The main purpose of this is to serve as a prison for debtors to anew. And to serve as a barrier against the Spainish that were expanding Flordia.

    On January 2, 1788 Georgia ratified the constitution. Two people from Georgia signed the final document, Abraham Baldwin and Willam Few. Georgia was the fourth state to ratify the Constitution.Which followed with the Constitution Convention.
  • Eli Whitney and the cotton gin

    In 1794 Eli Whitney created a machine the removed cotton fiber from the seed.The cotton gin made it easier for farmers to separate the seed. This also helped end slavery. Farmers did not need as many slaves to pick cotton.
  • Yazoo land fraud

    Yazoo land fraud
    In 1795 Georgia put 35 million of western land up for sale. It was being old for 1.5 cents per acer. This soon became a competition for the public. But the sale was revoked by a newly elected legislature in 1796.
  • Missouri Comprimise

    This law will Banish slavery in Missouri. This was efficent repaled by the Kansas-Nebraska act. This law also prohibted slavery in Louisana. 3 years later the Missouri Comprimise was ruled unconstistutional.
  • Dahlongea Gold Rush

    This gold rush was he 2nd significant rush in the United States.The rush was in present day Lumpkin County.This rush began in 1828. This started in Dahlogena and ran along the Georgia gold belt and ran up to the mountains in Georgia.
  • Worcester VS. Georgia

    This court case was about the Chekoee Indians. It dealt with them holding their Sovereign Powers. This did not protect them from being removed from their homelands. In the 1820's and 1830's and the public wanted all indians removed from within the boarders of Georgia.

    Henry McNeal Turner
    Turner was a minster and a politician. He also was the 12th elected consecrated bishop of the African Methodist Episcopal Church. A pioneer in Georgia, organizing new congregations. He was born free in South Carolina.

    Trail Of Tears

    The Trail of tears was acrossed 9 states. More than 16,000 Cherokee indians men womwn and children were removed forcibly from their homes. The native American groups included Cherokee, Muscogee, Seminole, Chickasaw, and Choctaw. Many indians died from starvation, disease and exposure.
  • Comprimise of 1850

    This was a package of 5 bills. These bills were passed by the United States congress in September of 1850. This defused the four year confortation between slave states and free states.
  • Georgia Platform

    This was a statment executed by the Georgia Convention. This statement was in response to the comprimise of 1850. This was a supoported by the union to document the acceptance aas a final comprimise to end slavery.
  • Kansas-Nebraska act

    This divided land into Kansas and Nebraska. To open new settlements. This followed the Missouri Comprimise of 1820. Only whit male with families were alowwed to settle in these new borders.

    Tom Watson and the populist
    He was a U.S marine corpse general.He was a politician, attorney, newspaper editor from the great state of Georgia. He championed poor farmers as a leader of the populist party.
  • Booker T. Washington

    Washington a african american educator. He was born in Haless Ford, Virginia. on April 5 1856. And he died on November 14, 1915 in Tuskagee Alabama. He was a author and a civil rights leader.
  • Dred scott case

    This was a landmark descion to decied if either enslaved or free slaves can become American Citzens. Scott was a slave who was taken by his owners to free states and terroties. Scott attempted to sue for his freedom. This was a 7-2 day descion. Finally it was ruled unconstitutional.
  • Alonzo Herndon

    Alonzo Herndon
    Herndon was a barber and a entrepreneur, founder of Atlanta Life insurance Company. This insurance company was one of the most successful black owned insurance companies in the nation. At his death he was the richest man in Atlanta.
  • Election of 1860

    Thuis was the 19th election. This served as a outbreak of the Merican civil war. The south had no support of Abraham Licoln the new president of America. They did not agree with some of his policies.
  • Battle of Antietam

    This is also battle is also known as The battle of Sharpsburg, mostly in the south. This was the first major battke in the civil war. This was the most bloodist single day battle in American History. With a combination of the dead, wounded and missing is the total of 22,717.
  • Emancipation Proclamation

    This was a war measure to cripple the south. This was to freee all slaves in the Confederate states. Before President Lincoln could propose this idea he need the Union Goverment to make sure they could enfore the Proclomation.

    This prison camp is lovated near Andersonvillie Georgia.This was a Confederate prisoner-of-war camp. This follows Andersonvillie national cemetry.This is a reminder of the horrors of the civil war prisons. Henery Wizer was the captain of the prison. After the war was over he was tried and exicuted for murder.

    This campaign was held in North Georgia near Atlanta.The first few months battles were held with the Confederate Soliders.This happended in the summer of 1864. This was a series of battles between the north and the south.

    Sherman's march to the sea

    The march to the sea or also known as the Savannah Campaign.Fter leaving the captured town of Atlanta Georgia the Yankees went south and captured Savannah Georgia. The northern military destroyed forts and other military supplies and also destroyed Civillan Buildings.

    This Amendment abolished slavery. It also abolished involuntary servitude,execpt the punishment for crime. It was passed by the senate on April 8,1864. And passed by the house on January 31,1865.

    This was created to hekp blacks and poor whites after the CIvil Wars.This was created by Congress in 1865.

    Founded in 1866. This orgnazation was in every Southern State.The KKK was organized by 6 Confederate leaders.They put force towards white and black republicans. Over a million memebers in the 1920s.

    DuBois was a sociologist, historian, civil right activist, author and editor. DuBoiss was born in Great Barrington, Massachusetts. Worked at University of Berlin. He was the first black to earn a doctorate.
  • 14th Amendment

    The 14th amendment states that if you are born or naturalized on American Soil you are concedered a citzen.This included recent slaves who were freed from their owners. It states that any state can't deny any person for "life,Liberty,or property."

    This states that any african american man has the right to vote.This ddint go get recognized until a century after it was written.The house passed the 15th Amendment on February 25, 1869, by a vote of 144 to 44.The senate passed the 15th Amendment on February 26, 1869, by a vote of 39 to 13.

    The Atlanta Falcons were founded in Boston MA.The Braves uniforms are navy blue,scarlet,and white. The home game uniforms are white, but the away game uniform are grey.The Braves made it to the wrold series 5 times. And won the world series title in 1995.

    Talmadge was the commissioner of Agriculture and served 3 years terms for governor. He played huge role in the states politics. He attended and graduated from the university of Georgia.

    Mays was a Southern Baptist Minster. He was a leader in the African American civil Rights Movement. He worked with Martin Luther King Jr.He was president of the MooreHouse in Atlant Gerogia.

    This was a supreme court descion of public segregation facilities for separation but equal. This was written by Justice Henery Billings Brown. And dissent written by Justice John Marshal Harlan.

    The AAA was part of the New Deal which reduced the production of Agriculture. The New Deal stated not to plant crops on parts of the farmers land. And to kill off unused livestock. This was to raise the value of crops and animals.

    By 1942 50% of American Farmers hasd electricity. And by 1952 all American farmers had electricty. The REA provided the use of rural telephones. This made the REA a indepednet agency.

    Hartsfield was educated at Atlantic Public Schools.He was born on March 1, 1980.He has 2 older brothers.He was the mayor for Atlanta for over 30 years.He imigrated the Atlantic Public schools which changed the lives of many black children.

  • Pearl Harbor

    Pearl Harbor was bombed by Japanese airmen. Which would soon lead to the United Staes joining world war 2. This was a surprise attack. 2,403 military men were killed.
  • Atlanta Hawks

    The Atlanta Hawks are a pro basketball team based outta Atlanta Georgia. In 1949 they joined the National Basketball Association.They play their home games at the Phillips Arena.
  • 1946 Govenor Race

    In 1946 elected Govenor Henry Talmadge died. The state did not know who would take his place. The the three governors controversy was created. Three men claimed the Georgia Govenorship. Herman Talmadge, Melvin E. Thompson,Ellis Arnall were the three men who ran. Herman Talamdge won the race.

    This ended all public school segeration. The people on this case had no idea that this would affect our history as much as it did. They were teachers, secretaries, welders, ministers and students who simply wanted to be treated equally.

    The Alanta Falcons were born on June 30 1965. The first ever "Falcon" was Tommy Nobis. He was drafted from the Uviversity of Texas in the draft on November 27,1965. The Falcons lost their first 9 games before finally having a win to boost their pride to be a Falcon. The Falcons have been to the SuperBowl and lost against the Denver Broncos.

    Russell was a politician from Georgia. He was the founder of the conversation coalition. It dominated congress from 1937 to 1963.
  • Jimmy Carter in Georgia

    Carter was the 39th president of the United States. 1977 to 1981.He was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2002.
