Inaugration of First Term
Marked the beginning of the toughest term of any modern President. Won by the getting the most Electorial votes but did not recieve the popular vote. -
Period: to
Presidency of George W Bush
-
The Worst Terrorist Attack in modern history.
The attack on the Twin Towers, Pentagon, and crash in Pennsylvania. The most devastating terrrorist attack on American soil since the Oklahoma City bombing. Nearly 3000 lives were lost. The defining moment for his presidency. -
Patriot Act
Allowed law enforcement agencies to "snoop" into suspects emails and call logs. Considered to be unconstitutional by most Americans (which it is) but sometimes certain freedoms and rights need to be "monitored" for the well-being, peace and freedom of others. -
No Child Left Behind Act signed
Required schools to test students on basic skills to recieve federal funding. Meant to be helpful and make sure below average students get the education they need but hinders the progress and advancement of those children that are above average. -
U.S. Dept. of Homeland Security formed
Was formed to help protect the U.S. and it's terrorities from more terrorist attacks and man made accidents. -
Invasion of Iraq
Invaded under false information of WMDs and also believed that there was a connection between Saddam and al-Qaida. The silver lining in this story is that the Iraq people were now free from a tyrrant and could begin their road to freedom. -
Saddam Hussein not linked to 9/11
After a long struggle defending that Saddam Hussein was potentially behind 9/11 Bush admits that he was not but stands firm that Saddam did have ties with al-Qaida. Although most Americans today look back and say the Iraq war was a mistake I would beg to differ; the war is an example that we stand for freedom and we want to bring true freedom to the known world. Granted we did invade under false assumptions but we gave a suppressed people at a chance of freedom which sounds familiar. -
Tsunami of 2004
Unbelievable loss of life along the Indian Ocean Coast. Caused by earthquake with a magnitude between 9.1-9.3 considered the third largest in history. -
Hurricane Katrina
The one of the most destructive natural disaster in American history. Costs are estimated at $100 billion. The second biggest natural disaster to happend during Bush's term as president (Tsunami of 2004 being the biggest). -
Reelection
Bush wins reelection against Senator Kerry. -
Mid-term elections shift power
Republicans lose their majority in Congress and in state governorships. (Picture shows the distribution in the House) -
Start of the "Great Recession" (debatable)
Bush's Administration warned for years the collapse would happen.
Documents recommendations to Congress:http://georgewbush-whitehouse.archives.gov/news/releases/2008/10/20081009-10.html The supposeable start of the collapse: http://www.guardian.co.uk/business/economics-blog/2012/aug/05/economic-crisis-myths-sustain -
Leaves Office/Obama is Inaugurated
Marks the end of a good president. In my opinion is was the best president we could have had for that time period. His administration handled many issues that were best possible answers I think.
