    In 1853 George Henry Lewis began dabbling into science, mainly in biology. George Henry Lewis began doing research into optic, auditory, and other nerves that have now been accepted by leading physiologists. The most important of which was posted in doctrine of the functional indifference of the nerves in 1912

  • Transition into philosophy

    In 1865 George Henry Lewis became the editor for the fortnightly review. But before 2 years he was replaced by John Morley. At this time he switched from mainly scientific theories into also philosophic theories.
  • Early Philosophical Work

    One of his earliest essays was an appreciative account of Hegel's Aesthetics. In the third edition of his History of Philosophy he made a change in his opinion of metaphysics, and this movement is even more clear in later editions of his work work
  • The Foundations of Creed

    The first two volumes on The Foundations of a Creed set a foundation for lewes ideas. Lewes stated the relation of subject to object falls within our experience, it is a proper matter for philosophic investigation. Lewes also stated that mind and matter are two aspects of the same existence.
