George was born to Melanie Helm and George Helm in Kamamaa`ula. -
Scolarship
He was recieved a scholarhip to St. Louis high school for sports in Oahu. -
Graduation
George graduated from St. Louis high school. -
Dropped out
Dropped out of University of Hawaii to get a job. -
Hui Alaloa
Was part of creating the Hui Alaloa group. They worked on getting closed off Hawaiian lands to become open to the public once again. -
Koho`olawe
Took a trip to Koho`olawe with the Hui Alaloa group. -
Ceremonies
Ceremonies were held on Koho`olawe. -
PKO
The group PKO (protect Koho`olawe `Ohana was formed. And George became the director. -
Protest
PKO protested at the state capitol, "Stop the bombing." -
Meeting with state legislator
George and some of the PKO members spoke to the state legislator about the bombing. -
Request to president
George requested a meeting with the United States President, Jimmy Carter. Unfortunalty he was out of the state at the time. -
Landing
Three people including George were suppost to meet with two PKO members on Koho`olawe but the coast gaurd found out about the meeting and had arrested them before George and his friends got there. -
Dissapearence
The night of March 6th a boat was suppost to pick up the three men. But the boat had sunk in Kihei and the men had not known of this. They got on their surf boards and tried to paddle to Molokini. The only known survivor of that night was Billy Mitchell. He stated that the last time he saw George Helm and Kimo Mitchell was in the high surf near Molokini that night. -
Bombing ended
The Hawaiians had finally gotten George Helms message and stepped up to finnally get George Bush to stop the bombing on Koho`olawe. And so President George H.W. Bush ordered that all weapons training on Kahoolawe be stopped. -
Apology Bill
After almost a century since the overthrow of the Hawaiian kingdom had happened, Bill Clinton had signed the apology bill. -
Koho`olawe returned!
Koho`olawe was finally returned to the Hawaiian state.
