George Ellis

  • Early life

    George Ellis was born on 11 August 1939 in Johannesburg, South Africa. His parents are George and Gwendoline Ellis. In 1960 He graduated with honors from University of Cape town with a Bachelor of Science in Physics. In 1964 George attended St John’s College in Cambridge where he earned a PhD in Applied Math and Theoretical Physics.
  • College acheivements

    From 1965 to 1967, During George's time at Cambridge his repertoire of talents included fencing and rowing however he is mostly known for his role as a researcher and assistant professor at the Department of Applied Mathematics. In 1970 due to his wealth of knowledge and experience working as an assistant, he was then allowed to teach as actual professor for four years.
  • Life as a Professor

    George effectively spread his knowledge throughout the world as a traveling professor. He was Professor at Enrico Fermi Institute at the University of Chicago, University of Hamburg in Hamburg, Germany, and his last position was in his home in South Africa as a professor of applied mathematics at the University of Cape Town. He retired from teaching in the year 2005.
  • Achievements

    George has had many achievements throughout his life. He was the Co-writer for the book The Large Scale Structure of Space-Time with the famous Stephen Hawking. He was a speaker for the Nobel Conference in Minnesota. He has also written over 500 published articles
